@randomsabreuse I'm on week 4 of cadence drills now I'm not a fan I just want to plod along Grin

randomsabreuse · 04/04/2021 16:30

I was just thinking how 'bored' I was is steady runs. This week the plan has much more variety - long run, progressive run, intervals and even the short run is longer!

Need to be careful what I wish for!

EmilyDickinson · 04/04/2021 17:26

Today is a rest (and eating chocolate) day, but disturbingly my odd twinges of back pain over the last few days have become full blown hobbling about. Taking painkillers and hoping it doesn’t last too long but I suspect I’ll have to take a few days out from running

teaandbiscuitsforme · 04/04/2021 18:09

W7R2 completed this afternoon. I'm at my mum's so asked her for advice on where to run because the lanes around her are a bit steep and dangerous. I ended up at a forestry track - flipping heck it was hard!! All the uneven tracks and ups and downs! I presume it's hard because I'm such a novice? Does that kind of running need you to have an actual technique?! I did it and I quite enjoyed it but it was tough!

redcandlelight · 04/04/2021 18:37

uneven ground is harder n many ways but I think easier overall as you use more and different muscles.
very soft sand is a lot harder as well.

my favourite route has a loop round a wood. I love running there, the air has a special smell.

Evening ladies,I did a nice steady 5k route this morning. Mostly off road and before it got too warm. Then been to meet up with my mum and dad this afternoon and enjoy the nice weather.
Starting to get a bit bored with the long steady runs but I think my next planned run is intervals and then for my long run next week I'm planning on trying out a new route starting from where my horse is kept.
Hope everyone's had a nice Easter day

BobVance · 05/04/2021 13:17

Can someone give me a virtual kick up the bum please? Not been for a run since Thursday and have eaten my body weight in crap all weekend so now I’m feeling sluggish and still finding excuses not to go out. Blush

BIWI · 05/04/2021 14:07

Put your trainers on and just go!

Don't know where you are, but here in SW London it's sunny and bright - but very cold. Trying to snow earlier! But in the sunshine it's lovely.

You'll feel much better and more virtuous when you've done it.

Mummyoply · 05/04/2021 14:23

I've just started C25K, completed my second run of week 1 yesterday, I'm 42 and have never run/jogged in my life before! I don't even own a pair of trainers (have ordered some) I'm currently running in pumps and walking trousers Grin. I'm enjoying far more than I thought I would, but I'm nervous about next week......

longlivetheking · 05/04/2021 14:39

I haven’t been out since Thursday either @BobVance due to this bloody groin strain. Still a bit sore but going to go tomorrow morning. Want to get week 7 done!

Talksunderwater · 05/04/2021 14:40

Off you go @BobVance...!

I didn’t want to go out this morning and kept putting it off but eventually went out. Did a fairly steady 5km. It felt much better than my last run, although I was surprised when I felt light snow falling on me! I didn’t mind though as it started when I was huffing and puffing up the hill near the end of my route.

Welcome @Mummyoply Smile well done for starting the programme. I had never run in my life before I did it and now I’m running 5km 3 times per week. Still amazed at myself. Best of luck with it. You’ll get good support on here - such a lovely supportive thread.

WhereAreWeNow · 05/04/2021 14:55

Go @BobVance! You know you'll feel great afterwards.

And welcome @Mummyoply. Definitely get some running shoes. My ankles really feel it if I don't run in proper shoes.

EmilyDickinson · 05/04/2021 15:03

Well done Mummyoply and welcome to the thread

EmilyDickinson · 05/04/2021 15:04

My back is a bit better today but I’m not going to push it, so I’m still holding off running till I’m sure it’s okay

redcandlelight · 05/04/2021 16:01

welcome yoply new shoes will make a great difference.
good luck for your next run!

I have not run today. the weather is awful plus along my favourite route there is work on a canal with heavy machinery.
went for a long walk instead.

Mummyoply · 05/04/2021 16:07

Thanks for all the welcomes, and yes running shoes and leggings have been ordered Smile

BIWI · 05/04/2021 16:22

W6R2 done. It was windy and cold for a lot of it - the stretches in the sunshine were a lot nicer! Girding my loins for the next run - 25 uninterrupted minutes Shock. I don't feel ready for it this time, for some reason. Forecast for Wednesday is saying full sunshine in the morning, but only 5 or 6 degrees. Hopefully running without stopping will keep me warm!

redcandlelight · 05/04/2021 17:11

biwi I'm glad your knees keep up with you!

They're a bit stiff today, but I think it's going to be fine. Will take some anti-inflammatories tonight before I go to bed though, just to be on the safe side!

Shopgirl1 · 05/04/2021 20:08

Well done @BIWI, I’m doing W6 R2 tomorrow, haven’t run since Saturday so looking forward to it.

randomsabreuse · 05/04/2021 21:48

I got our for my belated long run today - DH was working the weekend and off today. Did 85 minutes without stopping, felt really good and kept to my pace target and everything. Started off clear but really cold with my cycling jacket on (too tight to buy a running one), finished in just a t-shirt!

Then had a family walk up a ridiculously steep hill where 5yo was bounding ahead and I was barely keeping up with DH (who had 2 year old in a rucksack). Started off in the village cold in ski jackets, then up the steep bit too hot in t-shirts before getting to the top, back into ski jackets, gloves and hats and wishing for more layers in the wind, plus random snow flurries out of a blue sky.

Was very pretty, good day for step count too. Just going to do some yoga before bed or I'll be stiff as a board in the morning!

BIWI · 05/04/2021 22:24

85 minutes?!

I really can't imagine ever wanting to being able to run for that long.

Brilliant! Flowers

randomsabreuse · 06/04/2021 07:39

I couldn't imagine it either - although I did a half before kids I walked to get water and drink it etc. 6 months ago that would have been my best 5k pace.

It very much felt like getting into the zone, I think it was easier because it was cool and bright, and flat - the canal path was also relatively quiet which definitely helps rhythm. Not even stiff this morning!

Randommother · 06/04/2021 07:56

I'm so annoyed with myself, did W6 R1 earlier, but stopped halfway through and walked home. I haven't bailed on a run like that before, but I just felt like I couldn't carry on. I'm not sure what went wrong, especially after completing w5 r3 on Saturday. Has anyone else experienced similar?
