I think rain is most welcome at the point you've got too hot - in a couple of 10k events I ended up dumping more water over my head than I drank.

Best thing in a race was a spectator had set up their hose to spray some of the course, half way up a ridiculous hill on a stupidly hot day in July. It was seriously welcome!

WhereAreWeNow · 25/03/2021 15:16

Thanks @randomsabreuse - I haven't heard of the fast foot drills. I'll look that up.

@BobVance and @longlivetheking I think I found W6 really hard. It felt like it should be a breeze after W5 R3 but somehow it wasn't. Keep going though. The end is in sight! Just think, you're 2/3 of the way through.

Talksunderwater · 25/03/2021 16:10

Hello all. I think I found W6 hard too - weirdly, it was hard to go back to intervals after W5R3. So, definitely keep going as soon there won’t be any more intervals Wink. I also agree there are bad runs. I think I mentioned my last one was really tough for no apparent reason. This morning I ran exactly the same route and it was great Smile. Lovely sunny morning, felt good and ran faster than I have before. No idea why it was so different from last time!

emilyjeff · 25/03/2021 17:35

Interesting comments on pace and cadence, thanks people. Think I had shortened my stride a bit yesterday in my effort to avoid heel striking. Tbh I didn't realise running was so technical! Always thought you just pop some trainers on and off you go lol. Have got a new 5k to 10k plan to follow now, incorporating lots of easy runs and some intervals/ hill work.

longlivetheking · 25/03/2021 18:09

Thanks all Flowers appreciating the support

BobVance · 25/03/2021 19:24

Agree, thank you all for the support! Helping me keep going - I will complete the programme this time!!

teaandbiscuitsforme · 25/03/2021 20:12

Well I did W6R1 - definitely not the most enjoyable! Is it because you think 'It's only 5/8mins compared to 20' but then that's a lot longer than you feel it should be?! Oh well, onto run 2!

longlivetheking · 26/03/2021 07:55

Well done @teaandbiscuitsforme - it seems to definitely be ‘a thing’ doesn’t it?!
I decided to do W6R2 today to try and shake the bad feeling.
Went ok. Was too quick first 10 mins then the second 10 were really hard. I convinced myself I’d accidentally turned Sarah off or not heard her give me the final minute mark but no, it just felt like the longest/hardest two minutes ever BlushGrin

Onedropbeat · 26/03/2021 09:23

I’m still on week 7 run 1 as have had migraines this week

Hoping to manage a run tonight or tomorrow but going to be tricky to make it to 3 runs this week

hattymattie · 26/03/2021 09:43

7k this morning but could really tell I'd missed a run. Anybody else always finish with a face red as a tomato? I see people looking at me weirdly in the streetGrin

redcandlelight · 26/03/2021 09:52

I always turn very red in my face.
must be very good for our skin, all that extra blood circulating Grin

BIWI · 26/03/2021 09:54

Me too! Even after the 5 minute 'cool' down!

KarmaViolet · 26/03/2021 10:02

Yes! One of my favourite routes is round a park where there are lots of women who effortlessly pass me with their ponytails swishing and faces no more than faintly pink cheeked from the wind. Meanwhile I'm lolloping along gasping like a 40-a-day smoker with a face like a pan of fried tomatoes. I am not an attractive sight when I am running Grin

redcandlelight · 26/03/2021 10:04

I often wear a skin coloured t-shirt like that

I used to work with someone who was a dedicated runner. One day she showed me a photo of her crossing the line of a half marathon. She looked better groomed at the finish than I do before I even start!

longlivetheking · 26/03/2021 10:38

Hahaha, I was read after my cool down walk, and a cup of tea, and a shower this morning

WhereAreWeNow · 26/03/2021 11:25

Yes, I definitely get a tomato face. I didn't at the beginning of C25K as I don't think I was exerting myself that much. But now I'm trying to improve my time on 5k I'm usually bright red and sweaty. Another good reason to go early in the morning and avoid seeing anyone I know!

LegendDairy · 26/03/2021 12:22

I forgot to wear my sports bra today. Not doing that again.

randomsabreuse · 26/03/2021 12:29

I forgot my sports bra once in the depths of winter, was fine because I had 5 layers on including a tight gilet and a jacket, but I had to keep everything zipped up so was roasting once I got going...

Not a mistake I can get away with in a more normal collection of layers!

BIWI · 26/03/2021 13:31

W5R1 done!

Thankfully just before the heavens opened and it poured down Smile

Not too bad either; will just have to see how the knees behave over the next day or so.

longlivetheking · 26/03/2021 13:54

Well done @BIWI and good timing!! Rest those knees - hope they behave for you.

hattymattie · 26/03/2021 14:29

Well done Biwi.
Glad I am not the only one red and dishevelled. Hate the swishy haired girls who have a faint glow. Grin

great running today!

biwi I hope your knees hold up

I am definitely on the red and dragged through a hedge backwards end of the running spectrum... but then there's plenty of marathon finishers that look more put together than me on a good day!
