Shoes for walking

Hi,

I’ve just started walking 5 miles a day (after hardly ever walking anywhere) and I wore for boots but my feet ache like mad.
Has anyone got any recommendations for cheap but comfy shoes for walking in?

How cheap are you looking for? Mountain Warehouse has a clearance section on their website and there are always walking boots and shoes in there.

Do you find you're getting pain in any particular part of your foot, or are they just tired and generally achy? Your feet will get used to the walking surprisingly quickly, soaking them in hot water with a handful of Epsom salt in the evenings will help too Smile

Depending on what surface you are walking on (i.e. pavements, fairly smooth paths) you should be ok with some reasonable basic trainers. try Decathlon?
Your feet may be aching more because you've jumped straight in to 5 mile walks, depending on your age, weight and general level of fitness, that may have been too big a leap straight away.

Couch to 5K might be for running - but the ethos is to build up slowly, which also applies to walking if you've not done much previously.

Mountain Warehouse! - yes also have good walking shoes.

Gel insoles may also help, and if you find your feet rub/get sweaty when the weather gets warmer. Try changing socks for a fresh pair halfway round. (This got me through a 45 mile charity walk)

I have decent walking boots for hiking/walking in mud, but for walking around parks, streets etc I just wear well fitting trainers, Nike or Adidas from sports direct - I pay around £40.

I'm fine just wearing comfy trainers for a 5 mile walk. I also have some Karrimor (sports direct own brand, cheap prices) walking shoes that are comfy too. I bought them because I wanted something with a good grip and waterproof for muddier walks.
