Husband is looking for a simple way to keep hydrated when running. I looked up backpacks which seem great but £££ so looking for recommendations and opinions before purchasing. Thanks.

You could do worse than start off with Kalenji (Decathlon's own brand)

www.decathlon.co.uk/browse/c0-sports/c1-running/c3-running-hydration-packs/_/N-1em2vsw

on the grounds that if it suits well it's very cheap for good build quality.

And by using it, he'll find out what features he likes and doesn't like, that will help him choose an upgrade well (bound to be more expensive!)

I've got an Ultimate Direction (used sometimes for a Half and always for longer) and I like it (lots of straps to get good fit over boobs), but the one I see in use most often is Salomon

That's brilliant, thanks. We was looking at camelbacks, which is fine, but he wasn't sure about different features so that seems like a good way of trying them out. Thanks

The decathlon ones get good reviews. If it’s for a man it should be fine (I found them too big as I have narrow shoulders and they were all one “unisex” fit).

Thanks, think I've convinced him to try a cheaper version. He mostly runs on a treadmill, least in the winter he does, but ran outside today and felt like he needed to drink so was looking at options.

He's annoying in that he researches everything and gets the best he can, which is fine if he gets the use out of it, but I think it's wise to get a cheaper one and sees what features he likes first. Thanks.

Second upvote for kalenji. Especially if all he needs is a drink and snack, it’s got plenty of pockets and features. Would be fine for a summer trail marathon as well

Depending on how far he goes
Just an hour round th RRP add the decathlon one will be fine
Longer stuff needing fuel etc look at OMM/Solomon/Montane
