Triathlon / HM Goals for 2021

Hey!

Anyone else got some crazy goals for 2021?

I had a bit of a shock in the lockdown last year. We had a doorstep photo taken and I was the biggest ever. I got my finger out and hit the gym with intermittent fasting.
I started c25k around October time.

I lost 3 1/2 stone by December and have plateaued since. Kept up the exercise but did let a few bad habits creep back in food (and drink!) wise and stopped being strict in the evenings.

I've just got back to fasting and a week in I feel amazing again and with lockdown easing and the gyms reopening I'm feeling positive again.

I've booked a HM for November (at Alton Towers so hoping the familiarity will make it less daunting!).

I also want to do a triathlon and I'm wondering if 23 May might be too soon.

Swimming I'm ok with (breast stroke though - was hoping to hone my front crawl but pool closed has thwarted that!).

Bike - I'm ok with. I have a watt bike at home so can up the power to train my legs. I've been on the road a few times since December and really enjoy it but for the potholes. I think a marshalled event would relax me to enjoy and make a decent effort.

Running..... I'm not fast at all and can tell I am heavy. I've done a few 20k rides on the watt bike and plan to try running off the bike but this is my weak spot. Currently my 5k time is about 40 mins.

I'm not doing it for times or world records. It's a personal challenge.

Just musing really but would be nice if anyone else is setting themselves goals and challenges to cheer each other on. I don't wax lyrical in real life as it bores people!

Also I was given an XL trisuit and I literally can't zip it up my belly area is hideous so not sure the world is ready to see that yet. But I should have lost another stone and a half at least by then!

We don't have a local tri club but there is one about 1/2 hour away so I think I'll join there - they do open water swimming and that's on my wish list too!

There's no way I'll be doing a triathlon, as I just don't swim well enough!

I'm working my way back to proper 'race' fitness. I've just signed up for a half in April to see how I get on. As it's trail with some hills, I think know the answer to that already! Gruesome here I come

PuggyMum · 26/02/2021 13:59

Hi @AuntieStella

Ooh April isn't far away!

I had a 10k booked for Feb, which got pushed back to March and now April Hmm
I'm doing the distance every week now kit need to improve times. I feel heavy though!!

I've done some hilly walks in half term so reckon I've found some good trail runs. I'm starting to enjoy running a little bit!!

Be great to hear how you get on!

i did a lot of virtual races last year (if it was an alternative to a refund) as I found having set events kept me going.

Not so many right now as it's tended to be postponements (now end is in sight) rather than change to virtual. I've entered some 10ks, the March dates are lost but hoping that April will be possible.

Just saw today that The Big Half is postponing to August - presumably because it's a huge event so wants to be safely after step 4 (earliest, June)

Lighter mornings and evenings will help for finding time for runs up to 10k. Then soon I'll need to start adding long slow runs at the weekend

I'm half marathon training, but haven't got an event booked in. I want to do it sooner rather than later, I'm in week 8 of a 12 week programme, and there are obviously no races on. I'd love to do a race but i don't want to wait until the end of the year. I basically just want to prove to myself I can do a HM, then never again 😅
After I've done it, I want to focus on taking part in 5 and 10k races.
Good luck with your training! I could never do a triathlon! I hate swimming

Chocolateteabag · 26/02/2021 19:32

I've signed up to my first trail run inApril - "only" 7 miles and very local but getting butterflies about it

I also want to run a HM distance in March - just want to see how far I can manage

Will never do a triathlon as I hate swimming and bikingGrin

I've done 12k on the road bike today. I really need to learn how to use the gears to best advantage. I did 20k on the exercise bike in 40 mins and my 12k today was 41 so need to work out what a sensible 20k time is.

I should've done at least a little jog out afterwards today to test the legs!

Some great goals though - if I don't do a tri I've got the HM so all roads lead there for now!

So I 'won' a place in the Blenheim Triathlon. I don't feel I won it, not least because of the £120 entry fee but I committed!

Joined the tri club and have my first session this evening!

I need to shift another 1/2 stone really as I'm running heavy so need to get out of the bad habits. (Wine while Line of Duty is on feels necessary!).

6 months countdown!

Well done @PuggyMum

How is everyone getting on with their goals and plans?

I've had an open water swimming session and now have a few coached sessions booked.

10k went ok (1hr 12) and the track sessions at the tri club are showing improvements to my times.

I just need to string a couple together and see how I get on.

The weather is not helping though Shock
