Couch to 5k - anyone on week 3?

AlexaShutUp · 30/01/2021 13:58

Hello all, just wondering if there are any fellow C25kers at about the same stage as me in the process, who would appreciate some mutual encouragement?

I've completed the second run of week 3. Found it very hard but manageable - I'm very out of shape. Last run of week 3 tomorrow and I'm already feeling anxious about the significant step up next week.

Anyone else on week 3 as well? I could use a buddy. Any positive stories from others who have gone past this stage would be good - especially from those who started the programme when they were very unfit/overweight. The last time I tried to do c25k I gave up at the start of week 3 because it felt too overwhelming, but this time, I'm determined to push on through.

Any tips/encouragement/company welcome!

Well done @Blobby10 that’s brilliant! That’s a fab time. I’m nowhere near that quick.
That’s great you got out @AlexaShutUp and it wasn’t as bad as you expected. I’ve got to have almost a week off from 22nd, really hope I don’t find it too hard coming back. Just about to go out and do week 6 run 1!

Blobby10 · 12/02/2021 17:15

@AlexaShutUp I would just do run 2 - it sounds a much bigger jump in running time than it seems when you do it 😁.

wizzler · 12/02/2021 19:49

W4r3 done. I actually think that doing 4 longer runs seems easier then running lots of 60 second runs. Famous last words with week 5 looming!!

Flamingolingo · 12/02/2021 19:59

Ah nice to find this thread. I have wk4 run3 tomorrow (was meant to be today but I bailed on account of the cold).

Dancingalong · 12/02/2021 20:22

Wk6r1 was really hard, it was cold, wind was in my face. I really struggled but I made it. I think going back to intervals was more of a shock then I expected.
I agree with @Blobby10 @AlexaShutUp I think you’ll be fine with run 2.
Good luck tomorrow @Flamingolingo let us know how you get on.

Chilver · 12/02/2021 23:19

My WK4 runs have not gone well this week - the cold really got to me and I couldn't run the 5 min runs in one go. Really disappointed but will need to repeat a run or two this weekend. Just so damn cold!! I clearly don't run fast enough as even with 4 layers on i was still cold!!

Chilver · 13/02/2021 12:00

Just did my Wk4R2 (rerun) indoors on my treadmill - so easy compared to the cold outside!! I managed the 5 minutes with ease so will keep doing it indoors whilst its so cold outside Grin feeling very happy!

Flamingolingo · 13/02/2021 12:36

It’s bitterly cold, but I did it. The actual run was ok. 5:1 seems doable so hopefully that won’t be too bad. Nervous about running 20 minutes in just a week’s time.

Blobby10 · 13/02/2021 12:37

Chilver the cold prevents you breathing properly in my experience x as well as the extra layers weighing you down , making you sweat more and therefore making it all hard work! I’m really looking forward to running in warmer weather - hopefully it will arrive when I’m fit enough to look elegant and athletic whilst I run anywhere between 3 and 5 miles 😂😂instead of lumbering along like a baby elephant 😂😂

Chilver · 13/02/2021 22:19

Lol, Blobby10 I doubt I'll ever look elegant but I do want to at least look athletic! Have a loooong way to go though but at least I'm trying Grin

EsmeShelby · 14/02/2021 18:25

Finished W3R3, I was really slow because of having to watch where I was putting my feet. Not sure if I should repeat W3 runs before moving on to W4.

Dancingalong · 14/02/2021 18:50

Well done @EsmeShelby 👏

How has everyone got on this weekend? I did wk6 run 2 earlier. Another tough one.

AlexaShutUp · 14/02/2021 20:42

Well done everyone!

I did Week 5 Run 2 today, and surprised myself by not finding it too difficult! Shock Thank you @Blobby10 and @Dancingalong for encouraging me to move straight on, as I probably would have repeated Run 1 otherwise. It's the big Week 5 Run 3 on Tuesday...I'm apprehensive, but going to give it my best shot!

Amazing Alexa well done!

Dancingalong · 15/02/2021 08:39

That’s fab well done @AlexaShutUp! You’ve got run 3 💪🏻

Blobby10 · 15/02/2021 08:41

Well done Alexa! I found Run 3 much less hard than I expected it to be - in some ways it was easier as I got into a steady rhythm early on and was able to just trudge on.

This morning (wk 6 r1) was hard work - haven't slept well for the past 3 nights and felt sick and tired. But I did it and its over and how many hours is it til I can go to bed?!!! Grin

Blobby10 · 15/02/2021 08:43

@Dancingalong I've got that one on Wednesday - I'm deliberately not checking up in advance how long we run for so I can't talk myself out of being able to do it! Grin. Need to adjust the number of layers I'm wearing now it's warmed up such a lot - ended up carrying my phone today rather than having it in my pocket as I had to tie my jacket around my middle and the phone was banging up and down as I ran - very annoying!

Flamingolingo · 15/02/2021 19:46

I did 5:1 today and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Was flagging towards the end, but runs 1/2 felt good. I’m hopeful about 5:2 and dreading 5:3

wizzler · 15/02/2021 21:22

@Flamingolingo I am exactly the same as you. Just did w5r1. It was ok.. would have been better if I hadn't changed my route to avoid running past people. Lord knows how I will get on when it starts getting lighter and I'm visible!

I'm planning for r2 on Wednesday and r3 (gulp) Friday.. how about you?

Flamingolingo · 15/02/2021 21:33

R2 will be weds/thurs depending on my legs and half term chaos, R3 will be Saturday. I’ve got a fairly stable route at the moment and going to continue for R2 because I think I know where I’m going to start/stop. Leg one will be mostly uphill, leg 2 downhill/flat/uphill at the end. R3 I’m just trying not to think about!

AlexaShutUp · 16/02/2021 19:17

I have just finished Week 5 Run 3! Can't actually believe that I ran for 20 mins without stopping! Shock I was very slow, but I kept going for the whole run - I'm so proud of myself, but still a little bit in denial about the fact that I've actually done it. The programme really does work!!

How is everyone else doing? I am prepared for the fact that next week will be tough, as @Dancingalong and @Blobby10 have both said that it was hard, but I really have faith now that the programme will get me there, so I just have to keep at it.

I'm just so amazed that I did today's run. If I can do it, anyone can!

Oh wow that’s amazing! Well done!! I’m so determined to follow your great example.

AlexaShutUp · 16/02/2021 19:46

Just believe in yourself, @CarlottaValdez. You really can do it if you have done the rest of the programme so far. I'm so overweight and unfit, but I still managed it!

Dancingalong · 16/02/2021 19:47

Well done @AlexaShutUp that’s awesome 👏 be proud of yourself. I did week 6 run 3 tonight, 25 minutes running! I really struggled with stomach cramps for the last 10 minutes so had to slow down...even more...didn’t know that was possible 😂 but managed it. It’s amazing to think how far we’ve come. It was a lot warmer then it has been tonight so I ended up taking my jacket off and running in just at shirt.
Good luck for the rest of the week everyone.

AlexaShutUp · 16/02/2021 20:13

Well done @Dancingalong, that's brilliant - 25mins! We are all doing so well, we just have to keep it up!
