Couch to 5k - anyone on week 3?

Hello all, just wondering if there are any fellow C25kers at about the same stage as me in the process, who would appreciate some mutual encouragement?

I've completed the second run of week 3. Found it very hard but manageable - I'm very out of shape. Last run of week 3 tomorrow and I'm already feeling anxious about the significant step up next week.

Anyone else on week 3 as well? I could use a buddy. Any positive stories from others who have gone past this stage would be good - especially from those who started the programme when they were very unfit/overweight. The last time I tried to do c25k I gave up at the start of week 3 because it felt too overwhelming, but this time, I'm determined to push on through.

Any tips/encouragement/company welcome!

Well done kirinm! Week 5 now! 🥳

Carlotta Must be an achievement to have completed 5k. You'll be running it in no time!

kirinm · 24/03/2021 13:29

Well done @CarlottaValdez I don't think 28 minutes to run 4K is slow. I'll be happy if I can manage that.

kirinm · 25/03/2021 09:57

Week 5 run 1 done. I was SO slow but it is done. I'm just going to repeat any run I don't manage until I do manage it. I'm hoping to manage Run 2 okay but still worrying how on earth I'll run 20 mins.

CarlottaValdez · 25/03/2021 10:33

That’s been my approach- I was amazed I did the 20 minutes tbh. I certainly started it thinking I’ll just do as much as I can and keep trying. I was very very slow but I managed it.

I think it’s actually really sensible not to push it - apparently cardiac fitness improves faster than skeletal/ligaments etc. This is why new runners can be quite easily injured. I’ve been very cautious! I’m pretty overweight though so I’m worried about my poor knees!

CarlottaValdez · 26/03/2021 10:37

Managed a rainy run this morning!

kirinm · 26/03/2021 10:55

Well done @CarlottaValdez

My legs felt pretty achy when I took my DD to nursery so I don't think I'll run today. I did run yesterday and the day before so need a rest day really.

CarlottaValdez · 26/03/2021 12:05

Yes definitely I do Monday, Wednesday, Friday so always have at least one day between runs. If I have time I go for a walk on Tuesday and Thursday

wizzler · 26/03/2021 18:55

Going to keep posting on here if it's ok to keep me honest. Since I finished the programme I seem to not have the impetus to run forced myself out today for a 25 minute potter round the streets and feel much better for it

CarlottaValdez · 26/03/2021 19:12

Please do! We can turn it into a C25k plus. This time next year it’ll be ultra marathons I expect

teaandbiscuitsforme · 27/03/2021 10:48

Well done kirinm! You've broken into week 5 and that's brilliant when to haven't been feeling great! I've just done W6R2 - can't believe that's me done with the walking sections. I'm sure I still need the rest!

CarlottaValdez · 27/03/2021 10:57

The weird thing is I think it’s actually easier to keep plodding on than to have the walking break. Is anyone considering park run when it starts again?

wizzler · 27/03/2021 17:24

I'm planning on a park run. I think they start in June

Uachtar · 27/03/2021 22:05

I am doing w6r1 tomorrow. I keep missing days I have planned to run and it is a bit frustrating-,I just go on with the programme I haven’t repeated any runs, but wondering how long of a gap is ok? 4 days 5 days last week I couldn’t out. Found the twenty min run ok if v slow but I didn’t stop. I know what you mean CarlottaValdez, the walks sometimes make it harder!

This thread is super for motivating me out thank you, you are all doing fab

CarlottaValdez · 28/03/2021 17:23

Bit of a disaster here. I’ve torn some ligaments in my ankle and am on crutches. I’m so gutted. Hopefully I can rejoin the programme in a few weeks.

CarlottaValdez · 28/03/2021 17:23

I wasn’t running by the way! Just in the park with my DS.

kirinm · 29/03/2021 09:45

Oh no @CarlottaValdez nightmare! How are you feeling today?

CarlottaValdez · 29/03/2021 10:02

I’m feeling a bit better thank you! Pretty much sofa bound although I can get around a little bit on my crutches. Realistically it’s going to be 8 weeks before I can run again. I’m bloody well going to do it though.

I’ve been looking a exercises I can do while injured to try to at least maintain some of the cardiac fitness I’d gained.

Oh no! You poor thing. Hope you're getting lots of rest!
kirinm · 30/03/2021 09:48

W5R2 done. All I could think of when I got to 8 mins was 'how would I manage another 12' 😬

teaandbiscuitsforme · 30/03/2021 11:36

Well done kirinm! You can definitely do the 20 mins!

I just did W6R3. Can't believe I'm heading into week 7. Week 7 seemed so far away at the beginning!

Fantastic! You are storming through it. Is Week 7 all running?
teaandbiscuitsforme · 30/03/2021 13:34

kirinm Yes, no more walking for me! Confused

I'm a bit worried about the next week because we're going to stay with my mum for a bit (both single adult households in a bubble if anybody is concerned!) so I'm worried I'm not going to be able to get my runs in with being out of routine. It's not easy to run at her house! But that's just an excuse trying to creep in isn't it!!

wizzler · 30/03/2021 22:57

Went for a run this evening. Struggled a bit as I'm not used to being warm. Does anyone have any recommendations
for tops to run in. I need them to cover my tum and not ride up!

EsmeShelby · 01/04/2021 18:57

Today I did W9 run 1! I only covered 3km, but I ran for 30 minutes and I am SO pleased with myself.
