Couch to 5k - anyone on week 3?

Hello all, just wondering if there are any fellow C25kers at about the same stage as me in the process, who would appreciate some mutual encouragement?

I've completed the second run of week 3. Found it very hard but manageable - I'm very out of shape. Last run of week 3 tomorrow and I'm already feeling anxious about the significant step up next week.

Anyone else on week 3 as well? I could use a buddy. Any positive stories from others who have gone past this stage would be good - especially from those who started the programme when they were very unfit/overweight. The last time I tried to do c25k I gave up at the start of week 3 because it felt too overwhelming, but this time, I'm determined to push on through.

Any tips/encouragement/company welcome!

Congratulations @Dancingalong that's fantastic.

Week 9 r1 done. @CarlottaValdez what run are you on.. are we still on track to finish together?

CarlottaValdez · 16/03/2021 08:43

Well done Wizzler! I’m afraid you’re ahead of me now, I repeated week 7!

Chilver · 16/03/2021 22:00

Hi all, I had to take 2 weeks off due to illness but started again yesterday. I was really worried about starting again and wondered whether I should repeat an earlier week but just went straight back where I left off and did wk7 R1 and nailed it!! So happy that I tried it again this morning to see if it was a fluke and managed it fine again today Grin. Now I will spend the next few weeks trying to up my pace so I truly can hit 5k in 30mins! (Not sure if that will ever be possible but a girl can dream...!)

wizzler · 16/03/2021 23:39

I've got my COVID jab tomorrow . I'm planning to jabbed at 9.30 am and run W9 R2 at 5 pm. Am determined not to have any side effects ( of jab obv... am v clear about side effects of w9r2!!)

Chilver · 17/03/2021 10:33

You can do it wizzler!! Admittedly my ill health was due to the Covid vaccine for 1 week and then I just didn't run for the next week Blush BUT my side effects didn't kick in for 20hrs so I'm sure you can have the jab, do your run and take to your bed if needs be! I do tend to get any side effects going on things like this so you will probably be absolutely fine!

wizzler · 17/03/2021 18:58

Thanks @Chilver ! W9r2 completed.. no side effects so far. Cannot believe I m on track to graduate this weekend

CarlottaValdez · 17/03/2021 19:35

Amazing! Well done chilver! I’ll hopefully be joining you in graduating next week.

kirinm You definitely can do this! Repeat some runs in week 4 if you want to but keep going, you can do it! I'm doing my next run this morning and really don't feel like it. It's so easy to slip into a negative mindset and give up - I've definitely done that before - but I'm determined to keep going this time. You were doing so well - you definitely can do more!

I'm going to redo W4R3. Unfortunately currently waiting for my DD covid test result so don't actually have the ability to run. Hoping we get it today so I can run tomorrow.
teaandbiscuitsforme · 18/03/2021 10:50

kirinm Fingers crossed for a negative result for your DD!

CarlottaValdez · 19/03/2021 10:48

I did a very plodding 25 minutes today. I think because I’ve walked so much this week I’m just more tired but that’s ok!

wizzler · 20/03/2021 10:32

I've done it. W9 r3 completed. !

Dancingalong · 20/03/2021 11:34

Well done @wizzler 👏

CarlottaValdez · 21/03/2021 08:34

That’s fantastic wizzler! I have a week to go hopefully. What are you planning to do next? I’m planning to try to add a couple of minutes a week until I’m running 5k then I’ll think about adding some distance I guess.

kirinm · 21/03/2021 09:32

Well done @wizzler ! Do you have any future training plans?

Chilver · 21/03/2021 14:18

I had a disastrous WK7 R2 yesterday. I have had a very difficult week and mentally was in a very bad place; I switched my run from my treadmill to outside - and couldn't run more than 5 minutes a stretch without stopping. On the treadmill I was doing 30 mins without stopping!! I am very demotivated and didn't run today at all. Sad

CarlottaValdez · 21/03/2021 16:59

I think it is quite different running outside so you maybe were using muscles you hadn’t - probably also works in reverse! Definitely worth persevering though, the cardio fitness will be there already and it’s nice getting out.

wizzler · 21/03/2021 17:04

Thank you. I'm planning to try to run 5k just so I know I can do it. I also need to speed up so now I know I can do it, I'm going to push myself to go a bit quicker.

I'd like to be able to run a park run without embarrassment!

kirinm · 22/03/2021 18:10

Had to take a week off as we were waiting for covid test results. I think I've caught my DD's cold and as I'm asthmatic very wheezy. Tried to re-do W4R3 but ended up stopping during the first 5 mins run. I did finish the run and managed the rest but it took me ages to stop wheezing. Going to keep trying it until I manage to run it all!

teaandbiscuitsforme · 23/03/2021 10:42

I did W5R3! Never thought I would be able to do 20 mins without stopping!! I actually get ok so I walked for a bit after the run and then ran for another 6-7 mins to get a bit closer to home. Cannot believe that happened!

Hope you're feeling better soon Kirinm

That is fantastic!! Well done.

I can't imagine running 20 minutes. Still struggling with 5.

CarlottaValdez · 23/03/2021 10:51

Amazing job tea! It’s such a great feeling once it’s done.

kirinm · 24/03/2021 09:13

I finally completed week 4. Still very wheezy but this is the furthest I've got with C25k. Onto week 5 !

CarlottaValdez · 24/03/2021 10:48

I did week 8 run today (28 minutes) and managed to do 4km including the starting 5 minute warm up. I walked the rest of the distance after the 28 minutes to end up at 5k in 42 minutes. I know it’s very slow but I’ll take it! It’s the fastest I’ve ever done it and it nearly killed me.
