Hi everyone

I've started this thread as I couldn't add any more posts to the other one. Hopefully you all find this thread!!

Hope everyone had enjoyed their day - so bored at home right now I'm glad I have the run to look forward to. Waited till it got dark and I headed out with my new running buddy - my 11yo ds. Yes he ran ahead of me and stopped a few times so I could catch up, but we ran 4.46km in 33mins and I'm so proud of both of us! (And little dog of course who's my faithful running buddy). It was a bit drizzly tonight which was actually quite nice as it wasn't that cold so the rain cooled me off a bit.

I've been thinking of how I can improve my stride length and I wonder if I can use my rest days to do W1r1 and try to do it with much longer strides? Seeing my son running I realise how inefficient my stride is. If I can only learn to open my stride I could run much further in the same time. If I can walk tomorrow I might try that to see if I can.

Hope everyone is enjoying their runs today!

I've decided my bought in May shoes are a bit dead, but could only decide by comparing with a new equivalent shoe. Will relegate to beach/walking with kids status I think...

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/02/2021 08:01

cava I was running and thinking you’d graduated without me! Couldn’t believe it to come here and read we were on the same run! I’m planning on running the last run on Saturday depending on rain which seems prolific here ATM. I’m hoping for a light breeze and dry.

Blobby10 · 18/02/2021 11:04

I was hoping for wk 6 run 3 tomorrow morning but my achilles 'injury' (slipped on some ice on the warm down walk last Weds Angry) is still niggling and I'm in two minds whether to push it. Would have loved to just manage to do something without getting injured or having to stop and restart Sad

emilyjeff · 18/02/2021 11:52

W8r1 done this morning. Hadn't run since the weekend so started off feeling crap and like I can't do this but it got better! Ran round local country park so nice and flat and managed 4.8k/ 3 miles in the 28 mins so pretty pleased with that. I think I may just go for 5k this weekend.
Not too sure what to do after though. Possibly garmin coach plan to get up to 10k, definitely need some kind of plan to follow

likeamillpond · 18/02/2021 15:26

@WhereAreWeNow

W7 r2 done this morning. Felt quite hard going but I'm glad I did it. It's funny how one run can feel so good and you feel you're making progress then the next run you're back to feeling like a sack of potatoes! So, those of you who are tracking your distance, how are you doing that? With a Fitbit or similar? Do I need to get an app on my phone to measure distance?
I felt like that. I did w5r3 (20 min run(no problem. Repeated it no problem. i then had a rest of 5 days, did w6r1 yesterday and really struggled! even though it had shorter runs than w5. What's that all about?Confused

I usually only have 1 rest day between runs so maybe having 5 rest days was too much of a gap.
Tis a mystery.

You're roughly the same level as me Blobby10 I'm doing w6r2 tomorrow morning and hopefully w6r3cin Sunday

I sailed through w5 (i even repeated w5r3 twice thinking it would set me up for w6) but found beginning of week 6 a struggle. Its strange.

emilyjeff · 18/02/2021 17:18

I think there's no real reason why some runs are more of a struggle than others. When I was much fitter and running regularly I'd still have days where it felt like a hard slog and then other days where I sailed along loving it. Maybe its more mental than physical I don't know 🤷‍♀️

minipie · 18/02/2021 19:23

Went running for the first time in ages today

I enjoyed it and thought my injured knee was better but now it’s aching 😩

I wouldn’t push it if I were you Blobby2 best to let it recover fully. You could do some strength work in the meantime that’s what I’ve been doing

WhereAreWeNow · 18/02/2021 19:48

@likeamillpond going back to intervals was surprisingly hard after the first 20 min run. I think you get into a bit of a rhythm on a longer run. Stopping and starting is actually harder in a weird way. I'm not sure if it's physical or psychological.

Blobby10 · 19/02/2021 09:24

*@likeamillpond * I did wk 6 run 3 this morning but will have to stop now as the achilles thing was really hurting - the second half was more a hobble than a run. I've iced it and taken ibuprofen (so it must be hurting!) but think that will be me not achieving yet another fitness goal Sad

Hopefully with the weather improving I can cycle again (two rides planned this weekend!) and even more hopefully that the gyms will open again soon so I can carry on improving my fitness! Can't believe how much muscle tone I've lost over the past year with no weights work

wizzler · 19/02/2021 10:44

Back from W5 R3.
Ran in daylight for the first time... figured I wouldn't do it if I was tired after the days activities.
I cannot believe I've run for 20 mins.
Thanks to everyone in this thread who has shared positive stories ... it really helped

Cavagirl · 19/02/2021 10:56

wizzler Well done!!!! That's brilliant 👏 👏 👏

Talksunderwater · 19/02/2021 13:04

Woohoo @wizzler! Well done! Star

LegendDairy · 19/02/2021 13:49

W2R3 done! I feel more bouncy in my step already.

redcandlelight · 19/02/2021 13:53

very good wizzler
first time 20 min in one go is definitely a mile stone.

redcandlelight · 19/02/2021 13:54

and good for you too legend and all other runners.

YouFightLikeADairyFarmer · 20/02/2021 08:06

I did it! I finished! W9R3!

W8 and W9 took me about three weeks because of boring appointments and avoiding snow and ice, but I did it! I don't cover 5k in 30 minutes, I'm too slow, but I can run without stopping for half an hour, which feels insane given how recently I was huffing and puffing through week 1.

Good luck with your last runs @Cavagirl and @DobbyTheHouseElk!

And keep going everyone else - if I can do it when I've always hated running, you can too. Some runs were harder going than others, and that's ok - you can't always run faster and longer every single time you head out. Particularly remember w6 taking me by surprise - I felt invincible after that first 20 minute run in W5 but then struggled afterwards - but the sense of achievement in having finished is so amazing.

Am not planning to start marathons or anything, but I am going to keep going to a proper 5k, have the Nike Run Club app all ready to go for my next run, and determined to keep getting out two or three times a week for half an hour. That feels manageable and I want to sustain this new habit, I feel so much better for it.

Yay for us all - I will be telling everyone I know about C25k. Thank you to everyone on the thread, even when I just lurked it gave me a boost to keep going. Smile

redcandlelight · 20/02/2021 08:19

whoop whoop

bloody well done dairy

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/02/2021 08:22

@YouFightLikeADairyFarmer well done!!!!! Huge congratulations to you. I was going to finish today, but it’s chucking it down. If it eases up later I’ll pop out.

For a silly reason I wanted to do the final run in nice weather. I’ve got zombies run loaded on my phone ready to continue running.

I wonder if Cava will finish today?

If it wasn’t for the crap weather I’d have finished two weeks ago, but the snow and ice and artic weather has slowed me down.

wizzler · 20/02/2021 10:14

Huge congratulations @YouFightLikeADairyFarmer. Well done.. especially in the winter months when the weather is so unhelpful. I don't know you .. but this stranger on a website is very proud of you!!

WellJuhnelle · 20/02/2021 10:32

W3R1 done this morning in howling wind and sideways rain!

I was veeeeery slow because I was worried I would exhaust myself but when the app told me I only had 60 seconds of running the last 3 minutes I felt I could pick the pace up so I will try and go a bit faster on Monday for run 2.

Hope everybody running today has a good one!

redcandlelight · 20/02/2021 10:51

juhn
coming home after a run in awful weather is the best thing ever!

nice weather here today. will go out in the afternoon. the teens are yet undecided. tbh I hope that school at school for them can commence soon. I start to miss runs on my own.

WellJuhnelle · 20/02/2021 10:54

@redcandlelight it really is. I was up at 6 this morning with my three year old so I also have bread proving and carrot and ginger soup ready for lunch - hibernating for the rest of the day now.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your school to open - one of the reasons I started running was so that I could be out of the house child free.

WhereAreWeNow · 20/02/2021 16:35

Well done @YouFightLikeADairyFarmer!

I did w7 R3 this morning. It was quite hard going.

My shoes are becoming uncomfortable now I'm running for longer. I think they're a fraction too small. I really want to get some new ones but it's probably mad to order online without trying on in a shop first.

Redrosesandsunsets · 20/02/2021 17:19

I’m jumping in. Hello to everyone doing this fitness. Couch to 5k help me so much in the past. I am starting week 1 this week and can’t wait to join you. Let’s do this 👊👊👊👊
