Hi everyone

I've started this thread as I couldn't add any more posts to the other one. Hopefully you all find this thread!!

Hope everyone had enjoyed their day - so bored at home right now I'm glad I have the run to look forward to. Waited till it got dark and I headed out with my new running buddy - my 11yo ds. Yes he ran ahead of me and stopped a few times so I could catch up, but we ran 4.46km in 33mins and I'm so proud of both of us! (And little dog of course who's my faithful running buddy). It was a bit drizzly tonight which was actually quite nice as it wasn't that cold so the rain cooled me off a bit.

I've been thinking of how I can improve my stride length and I wonder if I can use my rest days to do W1r1 and try to do it with much longer strides? Seeing my son running I realise how inefficient my stride is. If I can only learn to open my stride I could run much further in the same time. If I can walk tomorrow I might try that to see if I can.

Hope everyone is enjoying their runs today!

Thanks @wizzler. You might surprise yourself when you get to w5 r3 this time. As the lovely Michael says, it's all about believing you can do it.

I totally love Michael. He's so reassuring and encouraging. I want him on an app to get me through my whole day, not just my run. I could really do with Michael's words of encouragement when I'm in a tough meeting or generally feeling crap about myself!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/02/2021 20:27

wizzler Give W5R3 a go this time. I honestly didn’t understand how it could be possible I could run 20 mins. But you can, and you will. Try it, even if it takes a second go. If I can do it, I’m sure you can. I found the audio helped me a lot. Jo was really encouraging and I got through it.

Cava that’s really helpful. I’m trying to do a playlist. I’m ok if I can run to a beat. Today was The Greatest Showman, but it has some really slow bits.

My phone recorded my distance today at 5.3k. Inc warm up.

emilyjeff · 05/02/2021 20:37

Ahh love Mr Blue sky!
Thanks @cavagirl I might have to do a playlist based on my beats per minute, try and keep me running at the same pace throughout as I usually go off way too fast and then regret it.
Anyone else eat way too much after a run? It just makes me so hungry, any tips to stop me eating all the calories I've burned plus more would be gratefully received!

Blobby10 · 05/02/2021 20:50

@Cavagirl but I like Mr Blue Sky and it makes me feel happy 😁😁x there are some other songs that I’m ‘in time’ with but they don’t have the same happy effect 😂😂

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/02/2021 21:13

I’ve been hungry all afternoon after my run. I had a banana.....

schoolcook · 05/02/2021 21:14

I feel constantly hungry now I run Confused

Cavagirl · 05/02/2021 21:21

@Blobby10 this made me smile as my perfect run to beat song is Blinding Lights by the Weeknd and I genuinely considered just playing it on a loop for 28 minutes...figured it might lose it's motivational effect though Grin

redcandlelight · 05/02/2021 21:51

I can't run to strong beats, I get muddled up with my feet Confused

emilyjeff · 05/02/2021 22:06

@cavagirl my absolute fave running song is On a ragga tip! Never fails to perk me up. I did wonder before how quick i could do parkrun if I just listened to it on repeat the whole way round!!
Glad its not just me that gets the running hunger. I'm literally running along thinking about what I can eat when I get back 🤣

Does anyone run in a medium support sports bra?

I’m still running in a nursing bra and after doing 20km this week I really need to get something with proper support

However, I’m breastfeeding and my boobs are all over the place with their size and the only strong support bras are sized to bra sizes which changes too much right now

Would I manage ok with a medium support bra/vest type thing?

randomsabreuse · 06/02/2021 07:41

When I was feeding I used a boobuddy. It's an elastic strap you put over the bra to help an otherwise inadequate bra. First time around I used a collection of tight tops to help the bra but the boobuddy was better as you could just undo it without removing any other clothes once you'd finished. I also did 2 Molke bras (fine until you get wet) as I was so far out of the size range for normal bras.

fellrunner85 · 06/02/2021 07:58

You can get a nursing sports bra, @onedropbeat - mine was from Hotmilk, and really comfortable and supportive. Medium support just isn't enough for running!
The Hotmilk one isn't cheap, but well worth it IMO. My boobs were huge when I was feeding, but it has good support even over longer distances:

Morning campers! Has everyone got snow forecast tomorrow? We have an Amber warning here in East Kent so thought I better get wk 6 run 1 out of the way before this promised flurry! Wasn't really feeling it today but glad I did it and will be sat on my arse for 4 hours of Zoom teaching this morning, haha.

Loving the music suggestions! I started a thread about the '80s and I've been keen to start a playlist for my next run. I love Blinding Lights too... And Mr Blue Sky!

redcandlelight · 06/02/2021 09:22

what do you do for running shirts?
I mainly have proper running shirts, but they stink. one of the teens prefers their normal tshirts and weirdly they don't smell much once dry after the run.
maybe I should consider digging out my old hard rock cafe tshirts for running?

redcandlelight · 06/02/2021 09:26

yes truly a bit worried about the weather here.

WellJuhnelle · 06/02/2021 09:53

Well after my absolute disaster on W1R3 on Wednesday I decided to try going straight to W2R1 today and I did it! It actually seemed easier than week 1 and I can’t believe I did it! I did try and slow down as I think I was sprinting a bit when the runs were only 60 seconds. Can’t wait to get out again on Monday because I feel bloody brilliant now!

How is your pain @Inastatus?

Inastatus · 06/02/2021 10:38

@WellJuhnelle - thanks for asking 😊 I’ve still got a painful pulling feeling down my right hip/bum cheek which I keep stretching out gently. I’ve been going for brisk dog walks but I definitely feel it after. I certainly don’t think it’s wise for me to run on it at the moment. If it doesn’t clear up soon, I have a back up appointment with a chiropractor. I’m so annoyed because I was just getting into the whole running idea and it was doing so much good mentally. My friend is carrying on without me but says she’s happy to repeat some weeks if I can get back into it.

Well done on W2R1 - you are doing great! Keep it up 😊

WellJuhnelle · 06/02/2021 11:56

@Inastatus I really hope it clears up for you soon Flowers. I’m sure I will have to repeat a few weeks so hopefully you will be able to catch up when you are back to it.

redcandlelight · 06/02/2021 11:58

back from a 5k with the teens.
part of it through woods with a nice running loop and hills.
on the way back if started to ice-rain.

WellJuhnelle · 06/02/2021 12:14

@redcandlelight apart from the rain that sounds lovely. We have some woods not far from where I am running at the moment and I am building up the courage to add part of it to my route as I love walking through there

Cavagirl · 06/02/2021 14:17

W8R2 done! Strangely warm out there...I think I prefer the cold actually when I don't look like a beetroot coming back!
Somehow I managed over 5k (28 min run + 5 min warmup) not sure how that happened! Excitingly I paced 5.55 for the first km or so... didn't purposely push it, I think attempting to overtake all the Saturday walkers without lingering must have kept me fast! Quite pleased with that as I felt a bit rough this morning so nearly skipped it again until I saw the forecast for tomorrow.
Well done @Trulyatraditionalman and @WellJuhnelle - I was over the moon too when I did my first W2 run - great work!
Good luck to everyone this weekend especially those braving the ice and snow!!

schoolcook · 06/02/2021 14:51

I've run 4 mornings in a row this week - banking runs in case it's too icy and I can't get out Grin

WellJuhnelle · 06/02/2021 15:36

@Cavagirl thank you! You are so close to completing now, how exciting! Seeing how well everyone else is doing further on is definitely keeping me going. Well done for getting out even though you felt rough too, it can be such a battle can’t it?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/02/2021 15:53

Well Done Cavagirl!!! It was warm here yesterday when I ran. Looked like a massive beetroot when I got home.

I can’t believe how close to the finish we are. It’s fantastic!! Star

I’m now thinking of how I’m going to stretch myself post week 9. I’m looking at a few apps. Hopefully the weather will become less of an issue too. Good luck!

VioletCharlotte · 06/02/2021 16:11

@Inastatus sorry to hear you're suffering, I am too. It sounds very similar, pain in my hip and a dull ache around my lower back/ bum. It felt a little better on Thursday so I did W2 R2, it didn't hurt at all while it as running but was so sore the next day. I've been for a dog walk today and it was bothering me after about half an hour of walking so I think I'm going to have to pause the running and rest it. So annoyed as I was starting to enjoy it.
