Any yoga experts?

What's the optimum mat? I have a very thin, cheap mat that's fine for standing poses but not at all comfortable lying down.

I also have a very thick comfy mat that my sister bought me when I was suffering with plantar fasciitis. It was a godsend when my feet were so painful but it does make me wobble!

Where's the perfect compromise?

There is a Yoga board on MN, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/yoga pretty sure you will get far more answers there

I'm not an expert, but I think yoga mats aren't meant to be too thick as you will be unstable. I have a 6mm mat which is fairly comfortable, but I have it on fairly thick carpet which probably helps with the comfort factor.

I just use a standard Yoga Matters sticky mat: www.yogamatters.com/collections/best-selling-yoga-mats/products/yogamatters-sticky-yoga-mat

My studio also has these for people without their own mat (pre COVID...). When practising at home, I have it on top of a rug, which really destabilises me, it's much better on a hardwood or similar floor.

You could layer with another thin mat for lying poses? I fold mine over if we're doing a lot of work kneeling and I need more padding.
