Hi Everyone,

I have just reactivated my account after a break of several years! I hope I don't break any protocols by sharing this here but I just wanted to say the following:

I am a Graduate Sports Therapist, Clinical Pilates Instructor, Personal Trainer, and Strength & Conditioning Coach. I have no desire to sell anything here BUT I am peri-menopausal and see a lot of the same issues / fears being aired here that I have experienced myself.

I have gone through a career change journey so that I could help people and want to dedicate some of my time to volunteering my knowledge in order to help others.... hence not mentioning my clinic / location. This is my way of giving something back.

So if you have any questions about exercise or injury, then please feel free to ask me and I will do my very best to point you in the right direction for getting help or advice. Obviously I can't make any diagnosis but I am willing to listen and provide some relevant guidance / information.

Apologies if this is not appropriate - if necessary I am more than happy to delete the post.

Kind Regards

Joanna

That is very kind of you. I recently took up jogging again and did week 1 run 2 of the couch to 5km. Admittedly I did not stretch after and when I got home sat to write a couple of emails. I then got strong pain in my groin area (the v area to be specific) that needed paracetmol and a hot water bottle. Any idea what it was or what caused it? I think its a one off and I recently started a low dose immunosuppressant so my body doesn't know what is going on, but am just curious more than anything!

Hi @User258544 - thanks for sharing. To caveat: without further info it would be inappropriate for me to diagnose / give advice BUT here are some thoughts:

Based on the location you have briefly described we have a lot of muscle attachments in that general region. It might be worth reflecting on whether you have felt any tightness in the run up (pun not intended) to this painful incident.... we often get a myriad of little messages from our body that are trying to warn us of something looming....

Warm ups and mobility exercises before running combined with stretching afterwards are always a great idea! If nothing else for the chance to enjoy some time to yourself but also to help prepare the body and help it relax down afterwards.

As you are in the early stages of a running programme it would not be imprudent to connect the running activity with this pain however there can be other factors that just might happen to coincide..... especially as you have mentioned that you are on medication and sometimes the side effects of medication can be unexpected!

My best advice? Locate a good Injury Rehab Therapist (whether a Physio, Osteo, Chiro or Graduate Sports Therapist) who can spare you a few minutes of their time to ask / answer any questions you might have about the injury. From there they can advise you on the best way to proceed. But I would encourage you to find someone who is experienced in Strength and Conditioning and can help rehab you (if needed) back to a great position for achieving your running goals!

Sorry to not be more specific - feel free to send me a DM if you want to chat further off line :)
