Preworkout while pregnant

Hi anyone,

I'm newly pregnant and self confessed gym addict and fitness fanatic. I've been pregnant before but I wasn't into my fitness - now I'm pregnant I don't think I can't take my normal Myprotein preworkout which I love. Is there any anyone knows I can take during pregnancy or any supplements that can give the same affect ?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

TIA.

What's in it?

dementedpixie · 15/11/2020 17:52

Googling shows me they are full of artificial colours, sweeteners and caffeine. I wouldn't take them if I wasn't pregnant never mind if I was!

emheartscoffee · 15/11/2020 19:38

There are some worse than others. I normally use woman's vest which isn't bad compared to the more artificial ones, but they make my workout a lot more effective so 🤷🏻‍♀️ obviously if I can't find one that states it's fine for pregnancy I won't be taking it but when not pregnant I like to drink it for my general exercise performance. Each to their own though.

Nope, too much caffeine. I take pre workout and ditched it whilst pregnant and breastfeeding, it’s not good for the baby.

emheartscoffee · 15/11/2020 19:43

@IHaveAGreyLamp I thought so 😩 I wish there was a pregnancy safe one

It needs to be minus the caffeine as there are limits on that in pregnancy.

emheartscoffee · 15/11/2020 19:53

@dementedpixie I have had two previous pregnancies so I'm aware of the caffeine limits - I've already switched to decaf coffee, but didn't know if there was a preworkout that offered a lower amount.

I've put my protein as the one I normally take which isn't the one I take - that's my partners - pregnancy brain already Confused Mine is the women's best.

Half the dosage?
Probably the whole point of the preworkout is to do with the caffeine boost

emheartscoffee · 15/11/2020 20:09

@dementedpixie right okay, thanks for your help. I've already said I won't take it if I can't find one that's suitable.

And I'm saying if you half the dosage you could still be within the caffeine limits while getting a workout boost from it.

No need to be snarky about it

emheartscoffee · 15/11/2020 20:17

Ah complete misunderstanding! I thought you were saying half the dosage would be just as bad ! Not literally just half the dosage. I didn't mean to come across as snarky. I don't know if doing half the dosage would even create a boost. I'd have to research more into it @dementedpixie

You can get pre workout without caffeine. This one is from Myprotein that you mentioned you've ordered from before. Just to add, I don't know if it's suitable for pregnancy.

Just google "pre workout no caffeine" and there are loads.

Rgy3250999 · 15/11/2020 23:33

The caffeine is the most important ingredient in giving you the boost. Anything without that would really be a waste of cash and just filling your body with additives that you don’t really want whilst pregnant and especially with no/very little benefit to your workout.

Although you can continue to exercise and should do so if you can, I think you will need to change your mindset a bit to being fit and healthy but perhaps not wanting to push so hard. Ligaments start loosening and it’s easier to pull muscles so I wouldn’t be going really hard at it, especially if you’re weight training.

emheartscoffee · 16/11/2020 07:11

I'll have a look at pre workout without caffeine. Don't know why I didn't think look at that. However if they are just jam packed with rubbish I won't want to take them. I know my partner loves him my protein one, I have tried that once before i thought it was good but couldn't stand the taste hence me taking a different one.

@Rgy3250999 yes I do agree with you there, i just feel frustrated with all the lockdowns in the uk I just want to get back into my normal routine but I suppose that won't be happening for a while - I do weight train, I feel like it's all a bit of a minefield when pregnant but if an exercise is uncomfortable I won't do it, my partner is a PT so he's already warned me about ligaments etc, definitely don't want to be pulling anything !
