Social distancing in the gym

Firstly apologies for putting a Coronavirus post on this topic and not the dedicated one, but I just wanted some info from the people who are more likely to know.

If you go to a gym in the current climate, how far apart are the machines - in particular the Cardio machines and are the members adhering to social distancing rules of 2m or is it 1m at your gym?

The reason I am asking is that things have changed recently at the gym I go to and I am disagreeing with the owners on their interpretatiom of the distancing rules, so, with cases on the rise, I want to know what other gyms are doing. Thank you.

I'm guessing that all the gym goers are either at the gym or at work then!

The cardio machines haven't been moved, but every other one is out of action so plenty of space between people. There are staff cleaning regularly but there is also plenty of paper towel and sprays available for members to use.

Actually, thinking about it, some of the bikes and rowers have been moved to a different area with more space.

Just back from my gym! Same as pp - treadmills are every other one out of action and other (more easily moveable) machines moved to be more spaced out / set up back to back.
Showers not in use but can use lockers and changing room.

And in the studio the floor is marked into 'boxes' depending on the type of class - so some classes can fit 8 in, but those that involve more movement are just 6 people.

Have to book in advance so limited number allowed, maximum 1hr 45mins per session, allowing for a 15min deep clean between each session.

Every other machine out of action, more space between machines.

All weight machines have a 2m square box taped around them which others mustn’t enter.

No showers. No cups provided. Allowed to bring own towels now.

Extra cleaning stations, and all the instructors do constant cleaning.

Fitness classes have ‘X’ marked on the floor 2m apart for you to stand on.

Thank you for your replies. Good to see that alternate machines have been blocked off. Our treadmills are probably OK as they've been moved and spaced appropriately - it's some of the other cardio equipment that hasn't and when I queried it the other day I was told by the young gym instructor that people are only supposed to go on alternate machines - but there are no signs informing members of this.

I attend a commercial chain gym, and I can't fault them. The trainers wear masks/face shields while on the floor, and every second treadmill, rower, stationery bike, cross-trainer is turned off. There are regular announcements about keeping 2m distance, they take temperatures on arrival, and they limited numbers in group classes. We have to wipe down equipment before & after use. It helps that the gym building is in an old warehouse and the ceiling on the main floor is about 3 storeys high!

I feel quite safe, although I don't do studio classes, as the studio is not as ventilated as I'd like.
