How many hours a week do you exercise?

Just curious what other people do?

How many hours a week do you exercise and what kind of things are you doing?

Last week I did what felt like a lot and just want to check I am in the realms of normal and not getting some kind of addiction going on.

So HIIT - 2.30
Strength and conditioning - 3.30
Heavy resistance - 2

Total 8 hours of exercise.

This week is looking pretty much the same too except an extra hour of strength and conditioning so 9 hours total.

5: 30mins running per weekday and 30 mins weights or Pilates.

I don’t officially exercise on weekends but might have a bike ride or walk.

I wouldn’t say what equals to just over an hour a day is excessive at all.

Thanks, I think I I am over thinking it. I have had the usual oh don't lose any more weight comments and remarks about being obsessed.

People just like to have an opinion don't they!

Ask anyone who calls you obsessive how much tv hours they watch a week. I'd wager it's more than an hour a day.

I run for 40 mins every other day. I've got three little kids and I'm mostly on my own so I can't fit any more than that in but if I could I definitely would!

I'm lucky in that I'm naturally fairly slim but I know I should do some for health reasons, I just don't know where people find the time

Ah excellent point. I watch 45 mins a day if I can be bothered.

I do 3 x 50 minute spin classes a week plus one pilates class a week. if the weather is good I try to fit in a couple of bike rides each week but only 30 - 40. miles. I also walk the dog each day but I dont count that as exercise

4 runs a week at about 4.5 hours duration in total, plus 4 (online) classes at approx 30 minutes each. I also do walking for the school run and to take the baby out, but if you don't include that I do about 6.5 hours a week?

It's not that much, given how many hours there actually are in a week.

I do 2x HIIT but only half an hour each in duration. Then x 2 fairly advanced yoga sessions one an hour, one 2 hours. Either a hike (as in up hills etc) or a swim (an hour) at least once a week. Walk everywhere. Not loads but enough for me. Smile

So many runners! I can't take to running.

I try to do 3 x 45 min spin classes per week, plus a couple of 30/35 minute swims. Probably not enough when I look at it written down!

Probably around 6 hours all in. That’s 3h running and 3h in the gym. It doesn’t sound a lot but considering i didn’t do anything at all 6 months ago, it is for me!

I'm another runner! Usually 2-3 hours per week.

That's all I do but my running friend does loads of HIIT etc on top of that - probably about the same number of hours as you per week. She had a medical recently and the doctor said he wished everyone in their 40s was as fit as her! So I think you're fine OP.

It maybe gets excessive if you feel like you can never miss a session, talk about it all the time etc.

But on a serious note, I used to workout quite a lot, topically, 6 hours a week. Usually a mix of HIIT and weight training
I really want to get a Peloton bike but are quite expensive and take up quite a lot of space.

I do five home workouts per week, so just under three hours. I exercise for general well being though, not to lose weight.

It varies, but usually 6 to 8 hours of running a week? More when in marathon training.

Plus 5ish hours of bike riding (30 mins to and from office each day). That's not very hard work though, as I go at a steady pace and don't really get my heart rate up.

I used to do weights too, pre Covid, but I haven't been able to get back to the gym and find it hard to motivate myself with bodyweight type stuff at home. Well aware I need to get back into it!

Then all the usual walking/bike rides with kids/climbing with kids etc would be on top of that but again, I wouldn't count that as formal exercise.

I don’t think your regime sounds excessive. I think the indicator that you’re actually addicted is if you feel compelled to do it and feel like you can never miss a session, as Comice says. Feeling guilty or anxious for example when you miss one would be a bit of a concern, or ‘making up’ for missing one by doing loads extra to compensate. I went through a phase like that and in my case it was coupled with some restrictive eating so all in all not very healthy.

I’m doing 15 hours this week because I am getting paid to teach classes and there is loads of cover at the moment for some reason! Unfortunately most of it is strength/resistance so I fear I will be a bit broken by the weekend 😬

OP, I enjoy exercise and probably do a bit more than you. I've had some negative comments about weight loss (I am still a bit overweight as it happens) and being obsessive/how can I have time (and yes about tv watching!), and a bit of sneering. They were upsetting but actually I think more about those people feeling bad or uncertain about their own health/weight/exercise and lashing out at me because it makes me happy. One advantage of cutting down social contact is I don't bother with those people any more Smile

If you are happy, healthy, and have a range of interests, crack on!

Only 2x60 min martial arts sessions a week plus another 30 min practice once or twice a week. Need to up.
