This news makes me happy 😃

Really?! I’ve never done it. It was an aim of mine. I can now run 6.5k straight or 20k Jeffing. So I’d love to do one.

Indoctro · 07/09/2020 19:29

I hope Scotland follows quickly

fellrunner85 · 07/09/2020 20:14

YES! Operation sub-20 is go, go, go!

Seems like forever since I last ran a proper 5k.

SwanShaped · 07/09/2020 21:20

Sub 20 is so fast. My aim would be 30mins. I’m roughly at 35 atm. I’ve also never done a running event as I only started recently. So that’d be really exciting.

ShoeJunkie · 07/09/2020 21:22

I saw this on the news earlier! C25k graduate during lockdown - very excited at the thought of my first proper event!

BogRollBOGOF · 07/09/2020 23:38

Whoop! I can pass on the dusty Run Director's box! I never imagined I'd have it for over 6 months. Thank goodness I bought the bibs home and didn't leave them in the dank store!

HowFastIsTooFast · 07/09/2020 23:39

Hooray!! I've totally lost my running mojo over the past couple of months. I can't wait!!

megletthesecond · 08/09/2020 07:03

As much as I love it I'm not going until the spring. There's too many people and it's too congested.
I might volunteer in the new year if there isn't a second wave. I'd feel safer marshalling than running.

kitschplease · 08/09/2020 07:10

Hooray!

GailLondon · 08/09/2020 07:11

Very excited! I’ll be there volunteering as soon as it restarts :)

rosy71 · 08/09/2020 07:12

I was excited all evening after reading this last night!

cheesecrackersandchips · 08/09/2020 10:37

I was really pleased with this news - although it's brought a very divided opinion online.

Lots of people will steer clear until they feel safer.

I hope it does go ahead. I've really missed it.

whirlwindwallaby · 08/09/2020 10:39

I hope they give walkers enough space. I've had them almost run into me before when just walking on the path through the park into town.

LizaLa · 08/09/2020 10:41

Oh brilliant! Been meaning to get back into running for ages & this is just what I need!

Taswama · 08/09/2020 21:49

Only heard this today and am really happy.
I didn't go to the last one before lockdown as I was worried about the number of people there - 700 was common. But I'd love to go again.
It had become part of our Saturday routine and DS1 had his 10 teeshirt. DS2 had been a couple of times too.

cologne4711 · 12/09/2020 21:43

I hope it happens. I'll be there on the first day if it does.

I suspect some landowners won't be happy, and will be lobbied by dog walkers who've got used to having the parks to themselves (other than all the lockdown daily exercisers).

Has anyone heard anything about whether eg National Trust or Forestry Commission will allow permission?

AuntieStella · 19/09/2020 08:58

Sub-20! Gosh

I'm wondering how realistic this plan remains, given the rise in new cases and the increasing restrictions in many places

Anyone on the grape-vine picking up anything?

cologne4711 · 20/09/2020 17:22

There was a long Q&A on Facebook and youtube on Friday where they said that they thought it was unlikely that there would be an October restart now.

I think they may have had some knock-backs from the larger landowners, as I mentioned above. Personally I'd be back on day one if it restarted as I don't think there's a high risk of transmission outside, but they need the landowners and volunteers on board.

I also think they should do a pre-registration system to start with and maybe limit numbers of 50% of the numbers at each event on March 14th, but they won't do that (and it would be a bit hard to enforce but I am sure it would be worth a try). In fact, according to what I have read on another forum, they appear to prefer to stop parkrun ever starting again than compromise on things like that. Which seems a bit of a shame.

And I have zero idea why they won't let the events in Guernsey and the Isle of Man start again, unless it's down to the local authorities there, but I thought they'd both had zero cases for months and their borders are only open to each other, so it's not like the hard core tourists could go there unless they want to quarantine for 14 days first.

cologne4711 · 20/09/2020 17:23

As for sub 20, I'll be happy with sub 25 when it restarts!

cologne4711 · 24/09/2020 18:27

Oh well, it won't be starting in England for a while: blog.parkrun.com/uk/2020/09/24/restarting-in-england/

It is coming back in Poland on 17th October though.

AuntieStella · 25/09/2020 07:25

I've seen the official announcement now

I do think that the 'British but not Britain' dependencies, such as the Channel Islands should resume. Given the testing regime for arrivals, I doubt they'll get flooded with risky tourists!
