Running head torch recommendations

Thelongdarkteatime · 06/09/2020 21:32

Hi all, am posting as my dh has started running again after a few years off. He is running twice a week after the dc are in bed and as the nights get darker he is going to be more restricted in what he can do. I’m totally clueless (running is totally not my thing) but I would like to surprise him with a Head torch for his birthday. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on what I should be looking for? Flowers

Have a look at petzl ones. Mine is lightweight, snug fitting, can run off AAA batteries or a petzl recharging one, has a white light in 3 brightnesses, red light setting, flashing and can direct the beam up and down.

I run off road at night a petal tikka+ and find that perfect. It's not as bright as some, but it's really light so doesn't bounce around on my head too much.

I've got a body light with straps round my chest and over one shoulder - plenty of light out front, red light on the back and no bouncing around annoying me. Also some head lights are really heavy which put me off.

I use the Quark by Alpkit I fell run and it gives a really good spread of light. It is a bit heavier than some head torches but has a good battery life and is rechargeable from a socket,USB , dynamo cycle hub or solar.

This or something similar

Very easy to wear and easy to charge.

I had a petzl, thought it was good. But I didn't look after it and ended up destroying it with rain and leaky batteries.

I now have a headtorch I got from Amazon for about £16. Very bright and half a dozen different settings including red light. It's better than the petzl, v bright and not heavy. I just searched for headtorch under £20.

Flowers thank you all for your help. I will search out one from your recommendations this week and that’s his birthday sorted Smile

Please also ask him to wear some reflective gear so that we drivers see him too.

Does he want it to see or to be seen? A lot of rural runners I know prefer chest torches. I’m a city runner and only run on well lit busy streets so don’t use one, but Proviz do excellent reflective kit.
