how to tone arms, leg, bum and tum when you don't need to lose weight

Im 51, 5ft 8" and weigh 9 stone, my BMI is 19.3 so I don't think i'm overweight but I feel and look flabby when naked, I look fine when trussed up in clothes! ! over the last 2-3 years I have slowly lost muscle mass which I know is a thing with age but what exercise should I do to tone my legs, bum, tum and arms? I have a job where i'm fairly active and I walk my dog daily but very little other formal exercise. Can anyone suggest any online sessions I could follow that work for a beginner. I feel if I just try to lose weight I will look gaunt and scraggy at the top half whilst everything seems to be travelling south!

30 day shred dvd

Yoga is good for this. You just need a mat and YouTube (or preferably a class and a proper teacher!)
It’s a good weight bearing exercise and really tones your arms, shoulders and bum .. and strengthens your core. And you get a nice lie down (savasana) at the end and feel all lovely and righteous! Haha!

Weights.
Fitness blender is a good website for variety.

I've been doing couch to 5k and not lost a scrap of weight but it has really made me look leaner and more toned, especially legs.

Sadly, there is no such thing as 'toning' your muscles. In order to make them more defined, weight training will be your friend!

I split my lifting in to three separate sessions:

  1. Legs
Squats, lunges, deadlifts, calf raises, leg press

  2. Chest and Shoulders
Bench press, shoulder press, dips, tricep extensions

  3. Back and Bicep
Lateral pull down, seated cable row, dumbbell row, bicep curl

I'm in the same boat
If I loose weight my face looks awful and gaunt
I've tried, and I'm pretty sure my muscles are actually pretty tones underneath, but sadly I've resigned myself to the fact I have to choose
Slim toned looking body but awful face or ok face and abit wobbly body

I'm going with the decent face because that's what most people see 😭

Running keeps my legs toned. My tummy's got very flabby since gyms closed so I've just started doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred on YouTube. I thought my arms were still ok but I must have lost muscle mass because I'm having to use lighter hand weights than I was using in classes.

To those runners, how are your legs toned? Mine haven't changed at all 😭 what am I doing wrong?
Started C25K in Feb, graduated end of May (had March off) and run 3x weekly since - I want better legs lol

Well done for keeping it up.

I've often seen people on the C25K thread saying they are disappointed that they haven't lost weight/toned up, but in the early days you are not really doing enough to change your body, you are just learning to run.
How much are you running, how hard are you running and are you carrying extra weight?
If you are doing a slow 5k 3 times a week then it probably isn't going to make that much difference, and you probably won't see muscle definition if you have excess fat on your legs.

I was just thinking this today, c25k in the first half is only a few mins running here and there, it's more about training your heart and lungs to cope isn't it. I think my legs have only toned because I was doing sweet fa before starting it 😂
