For those of you in local running / cycling / walking groups, do you pay a fee, if so how much and what do you get for it?
Just asking as a group I’m in had asked opinions on starting to charge a fee. Thanks

For most organisations I've been a member of there's been a small yearly membership and then each session is pay as you go. These organisations have/have had qualified coaches, delivered proper training programmes and are/were affiliated to the UK/England athletics bodies.

I'd be less willing to pay a fee if it was a social running group.

My running club is £25 a year. All sessions are included in that (sessions run several times a week) and you quickly make the money back anyway, due to getting cheaper affiliated entry to races.

Running club is £30 per year.

My PT used to do a short course for hill running (specific to one local event, so only ran for about 5 or 6 weeks), I think he used to charge £3 pay as you go each week.

I was in a running club. It was good to get into running and followed couch to 5k then graduate into other runs. A couple of years ago it cost £12per month for one run a week, £19 for two runs per week or £25 for 3 or 4 runs per week. I was already paying gym membership so knocked running club on the head. I think the prices have increased now.

£25 per week!!!! Who were you being coached by - Mo Farah?! Grin

grafittiartist · 28/07/2020 16:05

Running club- £30 a year.
Park run- free!

Norma27 · 28/07/2020 16:13

@fellrunner85 sorry those were monthly fees, but could then do that many of weekly runs depending on what you paid. I think it was very expensive for what it was

Norma27 · 28/07/2020 16:15

That did make me laugh though fell!

I've been a member of a few. A small local running club where there were social runs a few times a week was just a yearly membership. Another club charged for a track session or a swim session as presumably there were extra costs associated with hiring those places.

I would be happy to pay where I could see what I was getting for that extra fee but not for a social run where we largely left to our own devices.

cycling club, yearly fee of £20 and have to have insurance so get that through British Cycling for £30 a year thats it though, no weekly charge

iloverock · 28/07/2020 16:29

Voluntary donation of £10 per year.
If you wish to be affiliated then £15. I think.

CMOTDibbler · 28/07/2020 16:32

Cycling club is £20 a year, free for ds. Local triathlon club is £30 a year and then you pay for coached sessions - swim is £7, strength and conditioning £5 etc

I'm the membership secretary of a running club, we charge £35 per year which includes a club vest, plus fee to uk athletics. The rest goes towards to social events. We are a club with over 200 -adults and 150 juniors. We have social events each month which are very well attended and subsided by the club.

Rainyday26 · 28/07/2020 16:57

Running club £60 a year includes affiliation (gives discounted race entry, insurance etc) also includes leaders, sports club social membership (parking, cheap bar, somewhere warm and dry to meet in winter) and up to 6 led sessions a week. Members can also do C25k, 5-10k or 10k to half courses for free.
