If you consider yourself moderately fit, how much exercise do you do?

One of the absolute best things about lockdown for me has been having extra time to exercise. I used to go to the gym 3 times a week, but now working from home, my week looks like this:

5 x brisk walk, 4-5 miles at a time
2 x 1 hour yoga classes
4 x HIIT/ Body Pump classes (about 30 mins each)
1-2 slower walks, about 5k each

I'm in fairly good nick, and aiming to get stronger all the time, but I dont kid myself that I'm super fit or anything! Just wondering how much exercise other people do, if you consider yourself enthusiastic about exercise, but not a full on gym bunny!

At the moment I’m going on either a 3mile walk/ 5 mile ish bike ride with the kids each day. Try to run 2/3 times a week anything between 2 and 6 miles but sometimes that’s just alongside the kids bikes. A couple of YouTube exercise classes per week.

Usually play racket sports with the very occasional run but started running more a month or so before lockdown. I think lockdown has given me more motivation to keep running though with there being little else to do!

During normal times, I would aim for 3x45 minute spin classes, 1 30 minute Hiit circuit class and 1 reformer Pilates class each week. If I was pushed for time I would do a quick 30 minute cardio gym session rather than spin.

Currently 6 month postpartum so I hadn’t really got back into my stride before lockdown hit. Currently aiming for 6 workouts a week, usually 30 minutes in the week and 45 minutes at the weekend. Mainly stuff on YouTube, hiit sessions that are a mix of cardio and body weight stuff. My abs are still a bit ruined so can’t really go full pelt at the moment.

Would love to do more decent walking but I always have a toddler in tow. It’s slow going!

YouTube is bloody brilliant, isnt it? So much free content. I'm missing the gym so much less than I imagined I would because of all the free classes

Agreed! Good opportunity to try new stuff as well. I am missing having access to weights though. I started doing more resistance stuff when I was pregnant and would have been nice to keep it up.

I bought a pair of 5kg dumbbells just before lockdown, they were around 20 quid. Obviously dont have the range of weights that you can find at the gym. I do miss the cable machine!

Was at the gym 3 x a week pre lockdown. I do something every day now. Online hiit or spin using my exercise bike, a weekly Pilates session or a 45 minute bike ride.

I need to up my game really as not walking about as much as when at work.

5x45 minute HIIT classes (F45)
1x1hr HIIT class (F45)
1 Parkrun
Sometimes do double sessions if I'm feeling particularly stressed.

Ellabella222 · 30/05/2020 08:32

What’s F45? Not heard of that.

I can only manage short hiit classes. An hour is a lot!

I've been doing three HIIT sessions, one after the other, every morning, weights 4 times a week and a run every day, plus a yoga session before bed.
I vary the runs, between longer, shorter faster and gentle jogs.
But I feel as though I'm not doing enough, it's the on,y thing stopping me from tipping over the edge. I may be becoming addicted to it, but it keeps me sane. I've not had any injury or pain.so I must be ok. I stretch a lot.
Before lockdown I was at the gym every day, so is suppose my body is used to it.
I did a fitness test, and apparently my fitness is at the level of someone under 20, this was before lock down though

5x 1.5hr walks (walk the dog in evening)
1x 8-10mile run, moderate pace
1x 3-5mile run, speed work
1x weights class
2x 30min HIIT/Circuit

Every other week, 1 long run, 10mile+

Earnsomething · 30/05/2020 16:14

In normal times I run 3-4 times a week, do a social bike ride with friends about once a fortnight, anything up to 50m and 4-5 gym or yoga classes pw.

During lockdown I've done a bit of yoga and some body weight exercises but I find it hard to do those kinds of things without the motivation of a class. I've done a lot more running though, six runs a week up to about a total of 40m and I've been out on the bike with DH a bit but he's it as keen or as fast as my friends Grin

I'm much fitter than before. I enjoyed the classes but I don't think they really helped fitness like running does. My poor old body will probably miss the yoga classes in the long run though.
