Embarrassed, scared to start.....

This is lame, I'm just so scared and nervous to start exercising. I'm craving it so much, and I know my mental health needs it. I'm depressed I'm sure.

I have a fit bit and would love the confidence to go out and start doing couch to 5k.

Need a push.... Support advice..

Great to see you still going on. You'll keep surprising yourself with what you can do.

Doje · 20/04/2020 22:09

Awesome job OP!!

dementedma · 20/04/2020 22:10

C25K is great. I am mid 50s and overweight and have done it a couple of times. I have to be honest and say I hated every bloody step of it and never got the running bug, but I did it. Got fitter and felt a real sense of achievement

WelcomeToTheMountaintop · 20/04/2020 22:26

Well done.

i just wanted to say, don’t get disheartened if it is inexplicably difficult one day, or not fun. (I find it super hard a day or so before my period is due, or if I’m about to come down with a cold)

Thats the bit i struggled with at first, it seemed to be going well, then I’d have a crap run, and all the doubt would come back. Maybe i can’t do this. But actually you can.

And if you are ever worrying about being slow, I remember reading an article by an ultramarathoner, someone had whizzed past making a comment about his slow pace, he called back ‘yeah, I’m on mile 35 of 50. want to join me?‘. His point was no one will ever know how far you have come, or are intending to go, so don’t ever be embarrassed about a slow pace. You are still lapping everyone on the sofa.

Well done OP sounds like you're getting the running bug! I second what others said for anyone nervous to start...no one you pass has any idea if you are at 30 seconds or 30 miles when you stop and walk. All the runners I know support each other no matter how far or fast you run so lace up and come and join us!

Haggisfish · 20/04/2020 22:33

Well done! You’ve inspired me to start so you can’t give up!!

sauvignonblancplz · 20/04/2020 23:40

Absolutely amazing, everything @WelcomeToTheMountaintop said is spot on.

I’m sure you’re so proud of yourself Star

This is a really inspiring thread.

Have you looked at walking videos on YouTube? It might be a good way to start. I like Walk at Home with Leslie Sansome. It's for doing in your living room. It includes kicks, hamstring curls, arms so it's not just walking.

Glitterb · 13/06/2020 16:02

Go out and enjoy it!

When I see people out running I just have massive respect for them as I can’t run due to a having bad knees and I’m rubbish at it

If you are worried about people watching maybe head out later on an evening or in a morning?

MrsJamin · 14/06/2020 14:55

Wow @Greenmum2019 that's amazing! Keep going!

ChocoBanana · 14/06/2020 16:27

So glad I made the change I needed to and ATA timeline lockdown which would have seen me depressed and eat.

Get out there I say!!!!
