I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

Repeated W2R3 today. Happy that I completed it so on to W3 on Monday. Not sure how'll manage the 3 minute runs though! Got new trainers arriving next week too, so hopefully I'll have a more comfortable ride.

choc27 · 02/05/2020 09:49

Thanks mama! Yes I'll be happy with 4k too! I still have to count my breathing 4steps breathing in 4 steps breathing out! I am trying not to count all the time but it does help me a lot!

choc27 · 02/05/2020 09:49

Oh and @mama4321 well done for completing it!

titsbumfannythelot · 02/05/2020 10:07

Just completed week 3, what a beautiful morning for a run.

I can't remember who asked about losing weight, but I think it's too early to say and diet and alcohol consumption aren't ideal at the moment.

It's worth a shot though.

FallenSkies · 02/05/2020 10:42

Morning everyone, can I join you please? I did W3R2 this morning. I used to run fairly regularly, but that was before my 2 DC and when I was about 2 stone lighter Blush hoping to get my fitness back and be able to regularly do 5k at the weekends after lockdown.
I haven't lost any weight yet, but with my wine and snack consumption I think it has helped me not to gain any.

CeibaTree · 02/05/2020 11:18

Everyone is doing so well :)

I did week 6 run 3 this morning. Lovely sunny morning. Honestly if you told me a month ago I'd be able to 'run' for 25 mins non stop I would have laughed! Whoever came up with this program is quite a genius as it really works - even for someone like me who is most definitely not a natural runner!

Enjoy the weekend everyone :)

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/05/2020 11:44

Well done @CeibaTree & to @mama4321 for finishing Star

I did w4r1 this morning. Im running every other day so I’m crashing through it at the moment. Today was good once I got going, same as always. I’m enjoying it, in a funny way.

@Dollygirl2008, I’ve not lost weight yet but I’m too early on in the programme really. I’ve done it before (stopped due to injury or laziness in the past) and found I started to notice weight loss and toning changes after about week 6/7, once I was running for decent blocks of time. Other people started really noticing weight control and toning once I was running 30 mins, 3x a week and had been doing it for a good 3 months.

Hi @FallenSkies. Welcome to the club x

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/05/2020 11:44

Bugger, sorry about the ‘x’Blush

BlahBlahLand · 02/05/2020 11:45

Week 8 run 1 this morning.
I feel a bit disillusioned, I put Strava on for the run bit only, in 28 minutes I ran 3.39km at a pace of 7.44km/hr. To run a whole 5k is going to take 37 minutes and that's providing I don't slow down.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/05/2020 12:00

That’s ok though, @BlahBlahLand. Achieve the time element of running solidly for 30mins and then you can improve your speed later, if you want to. There are apps like c25k for it (they use interval training). I’m back at the beginning of the programme as I’ve had 2yrs off due to a knee injury. I was always more keen on distance and used do 2 or 3 5Ks during the week and a 10K at the weekend, I wasn’t bothered about the time it took (I was about 33 min 5K and 1hr 5min 10K, so not fast at all), I just wanted to be out running/jogging/plodding. Speed didn’t matter to me, I never raced or ran in competitive things (not even a ParkRun), I just did it for me. A chance to be on my own with my thoughts for a bit.

BlahBlahLand · 02/05/2020 12:35

@JonHammIsMyJam, thanks. I have no interest in racing or comparing my stats with other runners but I imagined that after week 9 I'd be running 5k in half an hour and I've realised it's not realistic.
Hey ho I'll carry on though.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/05/2020 12:38

W3R2 done. Gorgeous morning for it. Even got my shorts on with no worries. I am so pale it's quite silly but one side effect of Lockdown appear to be that I give no shits any more. No make up either. It feels freeing.

I've found old running shorts I'm too fat for, I'm going to try and get in them this summer. I've not lost weight but my cake and gin to salad ratio is not good. Need to get back onto the 16:8 consistently because it works for me.

Had s good run, now blitzing the house as it's a pit of grim with 4 people.

newatbabystuff · 02/05/2020 12:53

Joining in! This is my second attempt at couch to 5k - last time I started I was pregnant without knowing and had to stop 5 weeks in because I felt so awful all the time! This time I’ve just done week 6 run 3 so at a similar stage so some of you. I can’t believe I actually ran for 25 mins! It felt quite hard around the 10min mark and for some reason i included a long steep hill about half way in but I did it! So amazed as I really found the weeks with 5/8 min runs hard.

I think i covered 3.6k too - hoping I can somehow get that up to 5 but i feel like it’ll take me ages.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 02/05/2020 12:54

W5r3 done, ran the full 20 minutes which I never thought I'd do even last week. Funny week 5 has felt good all the way through, week 4 was way more challenging. Still very slow, 3.6km today but pace was up without the interval walls. I do include the walk sections too so I suppose that takes my average down a bit. Nursing bra came good again today. Grin

redcarbluecar · 02/05/2020 12:55

Late to the party but I’ll join in with this. I’ve done a bit of running over the last couple of days (I do mean a bit!) and am now going to download Couch to 5k.

IGottaGetOuttaThisPlace · 02/05/2020 15:15

Well I did 5k today after the encouragement to not worry about speed. It took me 44 minutes but I feel great!

Good luck to everyone else on here.

choc27 · 02/05/2020 15:55

Well done @IGottaGetOuttaThisPlace that is so fab and really motivating to hear! I hope I get there one day!

cannonball8726 · 02/05/2020 16:32

Hello! Can I join in please and ask for advice? I did W5R3 today (so the 20 minute run) - annoyingly had to stop at some traffic lights (normally able to cross without using the lights as there haven't been many cars - but today loads) for I think 30 seconds. I ran 21 minutes in total to try and make up for it - but feel a bit deflated that I didn't do it properly :( should I repeat the run? My husband telling me not to bother but I'm not sure. Thanks!

And I'm loving C25K overall. Have never done it before but think running works v well now that I have a toddler - it's so time efficient. I used to go to the gym but it just takes up so much time that I'm unable to squeeze the gym into my days easily!

Baseline2815 · 02/05/2020 16:43

@cannonball8726 I agree with your dh - you have to account for real-world conditions when you run outdoors: you slow down of it's slippery, or muddy; you cover fewer km if your run is uphill; you have to stop for traffic lights; you swerve to social-distance. You can add a little time at the end or just assume that it will all even out. Congrats on your 20mins!

cannonball8726 · 02/05/2020 17:00

Thank you @Baseline2815! That's a really helpful take - and sounds v sensible :) I can't wait to do the next one! I have found myself really looking forward to the sessions and was itching to crack on today. It's such a good buzz. I don't think I would have done this in a pre- lockdown world - so it's good that something positive has come out of it.

resipsa · 03/05/2020 07:36

Morning all. Well, that's it for me. Programme completed 👊. I'd definitely recommend following the themes (steady build up, intervals, repeat runs and rest days). No injuries or niggles here.
Started with 1 min on 13 March. Today I was determined to get to 5K and I did! Took 35 mins but only I was counting 😆.
I'll bow out but will lurk. Good luck to everyone else. And in the words of Nike, 'just do it'!

Congratulations @resipsa! Hopefully we can have a graduates thread soon Smile

resipsa · 03/05/2020 07:54

Thanks 😊
Yes! I'd miss reading everyone's input. I have a lot more time to read these days!

Please can I join (late but enthusiastic!). I have finished week 1 and am surprised to have enjoyed it! I need to take it slowly because of dodgy knees so I'm sticking to 3 runs a week with yoga in between.

@resipsa congratulations on doing the whole thing!

Based on posts to this thread I've had a look at map my run and strava, I just want to measure how far I go and maybe plan a route, is there much difference between the two? Simpler is better, probably.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 03/05/2020 08:27

Congratulations @resipsa, not only have you run 5k you've done it in a pretty decent time too. Park run once lock down is over?
