Exercise with baby for weight loss

So DD is now 7 weeks old, and after my CS I have been given the all clear to exercise Grin

I know exercise alone won't lose the weight for me, but it'll help, right?

I'd like something cheap that isn't running. Is a brisk walk decent exercise? Or I was considering spending £200 and buying a cross trainer, as I enjoy these at the gym. Is there something else I'm not considering?

Interested in replies to this as I’m in the same boat!

I am walking as often as I can but the weather here has been terrible with heavy rain almost daily so proper walks for exercise have been sporadic.

I’ve signed up to a Buggyfit type class too but with my first DC I did this and didn’t find it made any difference as it wasn’t enough (ie do 20
Starjumps then some stretching type exercise, felt like a waste of time).

I have friends who have lost loads of weight on mat leave and some who have trained for 10ks or even an Ironman... I can only assume they’ve had DH take the baby while they’ve properly gone to the gym alone multiple times a week. This isn’t an option for me.

I looked into hiring a peloton bike but this doesn’t seem to be a thing?

Exercise will on,y have a marginal effect on weight loss (that really is all about diet) but it'll be terribfically good for you in so many other ways.

Yes, starting with brisk walking sounds good.

And I suggest developing that into C25K (which can be done with a buggy) but if your reasons not to run are based on a physical limitation, rather than just disinclination, then you'll have to scrub that.

Otherwise, i think it'll be a case of either finding a workout that you really will do at home, or joining a gym with a crèche
