Up until now I’ve always been the one who could eat loads without putting on much weight, the one who eats the same amount as her DH/DP, the one who everyone says ‘oh but you’re tiny’.
Well, not anymore!!
I’m 42, and the weight has gradually crept on over the past few years and I’ve just about kept it at bay by seeing a Personal Trainer. For various reasons, until this week, I’d had over 5 weeks break from seeing the PT, and now put on loads!
I went back to the PT on Tuesday, got weighed and have put on 6lb in 5 weeks.
My tummy is massive. I actually look pregnant. So I’m 9 stone 6 now - the most I ever been - and at my lightest I was just under 8 stone. I’m only 5ft 1, so at around 8 stone is when I look my best.

Being bigger just looks awful on me, but as I’m only moderately overweight compared to some others, I find that I’m shot down when discussing with others who are bigger.

Is anyone else in the same situation - always the thin one, but now bigger?

Sorry but this is just a stealth boast. Some of us have struggled with our weight all our lives and have never been able to eat what we like etc.
Being bigger is not the end of the world. I'm your height and weigh loads more than you but I'm happy with who I am. Life's too short!

Undervaluedandsad · 08/08/2019 19:47

It’s not a stealth boast. It is a different mindset when you are used to not worrying about what you eat, until you have to and have to then change your mindset.

chochaholic79 · 08/08/2019 20:17

I'm exactly the same weight/height, including The used to be 8 stone, but I'm only 25 and put on the weight since leaving uni!
I'm trying to eat healthier, but am finding it hard.

Juanmorebeer · 08/08/2019 20:19

Hi. We have an almost identical thread to your situation in calorie counting right now. Both your height and weight exactly. Chat there?

Juanmorebeer · 08/08/2019 20:20

It is called 1 stone to lose

historysock · 08/08/2019 20:31

This is absolutely me! I used to be the thin one on our group of friends.Currently on holiday and can't believe how big I am. Feel really sick at myself. I've Been poorly lately and also a bit low and have eaten my feelings. I haven't been this big since I was pregnant.
I've never been one to pile weight on whatever I've eaten-until now it seems.

Going to have to do something when I get back next week.

tigerbear · 08/08/2019 20:38

@Macaroni46 why would I be boasting about being a stone overweight??
This is EXACTLY why I started this thread - because people like you in ‘real life’ think I shouldn’t be bothered about my weight, but why are my feelings less valid than anyone else who wants to lose weight?

I’m the same tigerbear. And I get why you posted as I have had the same off people - that I don’t need to lose any when actually I do. I’m a bit taller than you and looking to lose a little more than 1.5 stone.

trilbydoll · 08/08/2019 20:48

I'm 5'3 and about 10.5st, I think ideally I'd be 9st. But I like chocolate too much Wink I've started running this year which is helping but apparently you can't outrun multiple chocolate bars a day.

tigerbear · 08/08/2019 21:58

@Juanmorebeer thank you, I’ll take a look at that thread.

Waves to everyone else who is in the same situation. And thank you to those who are being supportive.
As someone else said upthread, it is so hard trying to get into a different mindset and trying to eat differently.
@historysock I think holidays/summer in general are always tricky as everyone is wearing less clothes and it’s harder to dress to hide the fat on the beach, and in general.
At least in winter it’s easier to hide under big coats and jumpers.

I'm with you on this. I rarely say to people in RL that I want to lose weight as I'm small-looking. But I have an extra 1-2 stone hiding around my middle and boobs! I'd love to lose it and tone up. I'm just about to start a thread because I can't decide which combo of exercise will help me!

Elllicam · 11/08/2019 17:25

I was always the thin one too, then I had 4 babies in 6 years and went from 8 stone to 11 stone. Now working my way back down but definitely up for more exercise.

Ulverstonian · 11/08/2019 17:27

Yep, me too. I need to lose about 1.5 stone. My BMI is currently 27, it needs to be down to 23, hopefully 22 for me to feel happy. I’m just a bit flabby all over - tummy, arms, developing a double chin (noticeable on recent holiday photos). Not sure how to start dieting as never had to do it before. I don’t think I have a particular unhealthy diet but something is going wrong somewhere.

ShitUsername · 11/08/2019 19:15

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️ 5ft 3 and currently around 10st 9lbs. I was 9st 6 when pregnant with my youngest almost four years ago! I started going to the gym a few months back but my diet is still pretty crap so haven’t lost much 😂

carrie74 · 11/08/2019 19:35

Me too, my BMI is now about 23, when it was always around 21, which is definitely a happy weight for me. However, I have no idea how to restrict calories, I've always eaten what I've wanted (but I don't think too unhealthily, I've always eaten lots of fruit and vag, and don't drink much, I do have an insanely sweet tooth though, that's my downfall). I exercise regularly, but should maybe up my intensive sessions.

Am on holiday for next couple of weeks, but may go sugar free when we're back...

Ivy40 · 11/08/2019 19:38

Me too. I need to lose 18 pounds to get down to my happy weight. Have just downloaded MyFitnessPal and will religiously calorie count. It’s crept on over the last 5 years or so and I just look a bit chubby. Muffin top and puffy face. Not obese and just on the border of overweight. BMI is 24.8.

carrie74 · 11/08/2019 19:44

OMG, veg not vag 😂😂😂

Waiting1987 · 11/08/2019 19:46

Me too. Less exercise and too much holiday indulgence has left me feeling uncomfortable. Just under 5ft 4 and about 9 stone 3 just now. Aiming to be back at around 8 stone 10. Starting to eat better tomorrow and increase exercise.

tigerbear · 12/08/2019 09:09

@carrie74 Mmm 😂😳
@Ulverstonian - same here. I THINK I eat pretty healthily, but something is going very wrong! I think, trying to break it down, it’s a combination of eating more/going out to eat more since being in a relationship for the last 1.5 years (my DP is a great cook, and he says his ex also put on about 2 stone in the time they were together!), drinking more since being in a relationship (hmmm, think it’s all DP’s fault! 😬 Doesn’t help that he doesn’t have an ounce of fat on him). We tend to drink flavoured gin, which prob has loads of sugar in it.

What’s everyone doing exercise wise this week? I’m going to see the PT three times, and going to try to do 30 Day Shred today.

OP posts:
tigerbear · 12/08/2019 14:54

It’s taken me until now to build up the motivation to do the Shred. Did all of it, but on a few of them I missed 5-10 seconds.
Find it SO hard to exercise by myself, but I guess a bit is better than nothing.
