Best exercise for strength building

Hi, it’s probably been asked a million times... I need to find a form of exercise to build strength. Mainly this is so I can manage my disabled DC (unable to walk and dead weight). I don’t get much free time though, so regular classes is difficult (not impossible). All ideas welcome!

Press ups.

Weight lifting.
Squats
Deadlifts
Rows
Chest press
Shoulder press.
Start at a weight you can tolerate for around 10 reps and increase the weight when it gets easier.
YouTube is good for technique or else a personal trainer if you can afford it

Squats, press ups and plank. Don't require equipment, can be done anywhere and cover all major muscle groups. 3 sets of 20 of the first two and build up to a minute plank. Lots of YouTube videos on good technique. Good luck.

I'm doing a weightlifting program called Stronglifts. All the information is on stronglifts.com. It's barbell-based so you'd need to go to the gym but you can do it yourself without going to classes. It's half an hour or so, 3 times a week. I've been doing it for 9 weeks (from total noodle-armed couch-potato status) and I deadlifted 100kg today.

Squats.

I love, love, love deadlifting, but it's squats which have made me strong & fit. I have quads like iron.

I deadlifted 100kg today . Totally jealous UtterlyUnimagiative . I had to take a break from heavy lifting, after overdoing it on deadlifts (cos I like them so much & I'm good at them), and my back spasming. Got back to them last week - all fine at 75kg, but flaked at 87.5kg. So my PB is still 85kg, and goodness knows when I'll even be able to do that again. Grrr (but I am quite elderly).
