Need some trainers for dd

Dd1 intermittently gets pain in her heel. Particularly flares up if she runs alot in pe at school.

She does walk a fair bit too and from school and to friends houses. Runs around the park and jogs to the shop etc

Was thinking maybe it would help if she perhaps had some more supportive running trainers rather than just the bog standard trainers . We usually get skechers as they are comfy but now worried perhaps they just dont support or protect the foot enough and that's what's causing it to hurt?

She does tend to roll her ankle a little so need some with decent ankle support, reasonably priced as I'll need two pairs Hmm one for home one for pe kit and as it's also for school, will need to be available in a fairly plain design.

So any recommendations would be great.

TIA

How old is dd?

Mine wears these nike trainers and she finds them very comfortable.

SarahTancredi · 28/06/2019 21:51

Shes 12.

That's a similar kind of design to what she has really. Dead comfy (skechers have memory foam) but being almost all that woven breathable fabric it doesn't support quite enough and her ankle rolls a bit too much in them.

I had some Hokas for running that were supportive on the ankle to stop my foot rolling, and my knees knocking, but they were pricey. Maybe go to a running shop and ask them for a gait analysis, they can advise you specific brands or styles that can help specific issues.

Yikes I see what you mean about the price...

They do look really nice though theres a black pair that look perfect

Sadly our one specialist running shoe store closed down leaving us with sports direct.

Googling independent sports shops as we speak..

Sketchers are usually good. Dd swears by them as a dancer who has been under the hospital for foot issues.

I’d get your dd checked for any problems.

If you happen to be near Birmingham then Up and running is very good, they are very near new street station.

Aw82 · 28/06/2019 23:15

Avoid nike, don't last. My last two pairs of adidas have been really comfy.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/06/2019 23:22

To be honest, if she does run then a decent pair of trainers is invaluable. The damage you can do in the wrong shoes is quite significant. A decent pair of trainers can do several
Hundreds of miles so assuming her feet aren't growing too rapidly they could last a while. My Hokas corrected a long term pain that was caused by my wonky knee.

You could also try brooks, they do a no quibble 90 day guarantee if you order direct from them even if you've run in them. Order at least a half size up, they fit small.

SarahTancredi · 28/06/2019 23:43

The Brooks look slightly more within budget thank you.

No where near Birmingham unfortunately. Nearest sports shop that's not a sports direct is probably about 10 miles away

I'm going to hazard a guess and say SD wont be the best place for a half decent fitting and advice?

I might try and order online and risk having to send back as otherwise with work I'm.not going to be able to get anywhere til the Sumner hols

If she's running a lot take her the 10 mikes for a gait analysis, it'll save you a fortune in physio in the long run (excuse the pun).

Rollerbird · 29/06/2019 15:59

Deffo gait analysis.

SarahTancredi · 29/06/2019 17:23

I hadnt thought if getting an analysis done I will look into that in the Sumner hols will be able to travel then . I looked and theres an up akd running in oxford so can team that up with a day out...

Our local running shop charges £30 for gait analysis but you get it back if you buy shoes, the second pair you can then buy online. Mine are brooks

Is it a chain stuck?
