Looking for the best/fastest way to tone legs.
I run and have been doing 30 day shred but still no difference.
Thanks

Weights maybe. Squats, lunges, etc.

Try Jillian Michaels Killer Buns and Thighs - obviously, it targets that area and has definitely worked well for me. It includes lots of weighted squats, lunges etc.

I've been doing pilates for the last 5 years, legs never looked better.

there is no such thing as toning really. What you mean is building muscle. And weights are of course the most efficient for that.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 26/06/2019 19:42

I have been doing JM lift and shred and in a few weeks my legs are so much more toned. I have large leg bones and muscles -plus quite a bit of fat and for the first time ever my legs look something resembling slim/ toned and I am happy wearing shorts. I honestly didn't expect such quick results.

Exactly what KatharinaRosalie says, to build muscle you need to start lifting weights and heavy weights at that; lunges armed with 3kg, a la Jillian Michaels, really won't cut it. Wink

Mine firmed up using the plate machine at the gym. You do squats and heel raises on it.

HundredMilesAnHour · 26/06/2019 20:11

I'm surprised running hasn't done the work for you.

Squats and lunges, even with just your bodyweight, will make a difference. Obviously if you don't have access to weights, you need to increase the number of reps you do. Make sure you are using the correct form (have a look at YouTube for help if you need it - and use a mirror to check your form). Keep the intensity high if you want results. Step-ups (or running up flights of stairs) are also good. Cycling especially uphill.

Yes to squats and lunges with heavy weights. A squat rack or Smith’s machine in a gym can enable you to go heavy as you don’t have to lift the bar up on to your back. Leg press machine is also awesome.

waterlego · 26/06/2019 20:22

Running will not build much muscle if it is long distance, steady pace running. To build muscle you would need to be doing explosive activity, ie sprinting.

BeansandRice · 28/06/2019 12:02

Squats and lunges.

Maybe do a weekly Pump class. Then move to proper weighted squats & lunges when you're confident with the light weights of a Pump class (you can't really work heavier than 10-15 kilos in Pump because there are so many reps).

TRX
For me it’s toned the parts other exercises doesn’t touch!
