We’re thinking about merging this section, what do you think?

Hi all,
We’re doing some work on making the Talk boards more useful and user-friendly for both regular and new users. After looking at some stats for the site, we think we could boost activity on the whole by merging some of the lesser used sections.

We’re proposing to fold the topics in this section into the Weight loss chat area.

This should increase the number of topics in the section - and hopefully lead to more posts and responses to members.

Didnt exercise used to be under weight loss but it was moved for the reasons all stated above?

Wildernesstips · 22/06/2019 17:10

I don't like the idea of exercise being in weight loss, however, I would totally embrace a new section called Healthy Living. I think you could then have sub-categories of Exercise, Healthy Eating (which is different to weight loss) and Wellbeing.

PatchworkElmer · 22/06/2019 17:14

Another one saying that this is an awful idea! I’d be happy with Healthy Living though.

BeansandRice · 22/06/2019 19:04

It’s clear that MNHQ hasn’t read the Exercise forum (or the Weights Room either).

Not a good idea to put weight loss and exercise together.
I exercise for health , not weight loss

AuntieStella · 23/06/2019 07:59

I noticed this morning, when reading about fitness, in an article on the BBC, that it arranges it under health.

OublietteBravo · 23/06/2019 08:08

I will leave the exercise boards if they are merged into weight loss. I do not need to lose weight. I could live with them being under something like lifestyle, but weight loss? Hell no!

IRun4Me · 27/06/2019 15:17

I agree with all the previous posters. And I have never exercised for weight loss but to benefit both my physical and mental health.
The times I have discussed nutrition on an exercise board is probably the opposite of weight loss - work out how to fuel properly for longer runs.
Please reconsider this idea.

GlacindaTheTroll · 27/06/2019 18:37

I wonder how long before the weight loss posters would want us booted off especially in the marathon training season, when the thread titles would be along the lines of 'help me increase what I eat'

MichaelMumsnet · 28/06/2019 15:14

Ok, we'll have a rethink. Thanks for all your thoughts so far.

Thanks for listening!

lljkk · 29/06/2019 10:32

Could you merge them under a title like "Healthy Living"?

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 29/06/2019 10:39

Yep, exercise is more mental health, wellness & can help with body composition.

It isn't really helpful to lump it with fatloss, which is almost all diet-related. As in, it can aid a far better body composition but you can be no lighter...

I agree it is a bit depressing that the wide range of exercise discussions would be relegated to a sub-topic of dieting.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2019 22:19

I just saw this post.

Exercise is not about weight loss!!! I'm borderline underweight and someone who has struggled with eating. I have to put effort into dissociating the two things. It would actually cause me real issues to even start associating what I am doing with trying to lose weight.

For those with full blown Eating disorders this would be massively triggering. It's incredibly unhelpful.

TakingtheHobbitstoIsengard · 03/07/2019 18:53

Agree with all the above. I was initially surprised to even find this topic under Health - I was searching under Fun & Games. Seemed odd to have 'Sport' and 'Exercise' under completely different categories. For many (most?) exercise is a leisure activity, not a means to an end.
