Best gymwear?

Hi!

I want to get some new gymwear.. I'm specifically looking for some thick & supportive gym leggings. The stuff I have got at the moment was fairly cheap from sports direct & it's definitely time for a refresh.

I'm a size 16/18 so help with sizing would be fab too as a lot of the brands do S/M/L/XL etc.

Thank you!

I'm not sure about the sizing but I tried on some thick but comfortable usa pro leggings in sports direct a couple of weeks ago, they didn't have my size otherwise I'd have got some. They were dark grey with a luminous waistband.

Thank you @Welder, I'll have a browse and see if I can find them!

Tikiboo they are not cheap but they are very good quality.
Gap - I get a lot of my running leggings from there, I'm a 12 and medium fits me.

Hmm, I really like Nike but I have no idea what the sizing is like - I generally wear a M and am a pretty average size 12. God knows what they’ll call a 16/18!

I make the effort to get their running trousers with a high waist and a drawstring waist, they stay up better!

For thicker leggings, I use GAP. Don't pay full price. High-waisted, blackout. I am a 10-12 and M does me.

Try gym shark. They make all their clothes specifically for wearing in the gym so the material is amazing- thick, opaque, stretchy and soft. They do some really nice colours and designs too.

Kazplus2 · 01/06/2019 10:42

Hold off to the sweaty Betty sale and get some stuff there. The quality of the leggings is great.

Rollerbird · 01/06/2019 13:02

Believe it or not I got some AMAZING skechers leggings from Costco.
£18, phone pockets both sides, thick, ultra high waistband
I have Nike, tikiboo, and like the quality of these much more

Tk Maxx often have some lovely branded stuff in - you might have to visit a few times.

My current gym leggings are all Nike though from the outlet centre - thick enough to be be opaque, not too hot and wash well.

Thank you everyone!

I like Nike for leggings but as you'd expect its their more expensive ones that are the best. A size 16 is a XL in Nike. Depending on your shape, you may be better with the next size up which will be the smallest size in their Plus size range (this is actually a good thing as their Plus range is frequently discounted on the Nike website so will save you some £££)

I saw Tikiboo recommended on MN and tried them and have been really happy with the quality - and got a lot of compliments from people in my gym. A Tikiboo XL is a 14-16 so as 16-18 you probably need size XXL. Tikiboo themselves recommend sizing up rather than down if you're in any doubt.

Thank you for your help with sizing @HundredMilesAnHour. Super helpful! X

My favourite leggings come from Sturdy By Design. Funky and comfy - I really rate them.

Rathkelter · 04/06/2019 23:23

I've got these from John Lewis reduced to £11 from £45. An absolute steal. They are thick, snug, high waisted and I've been jogging in them and can report they don't slip down at the waist or gusset.

SisterFarAway · 05/06/2019 11:54

I just bought two pairs of leggings at GAP, one was reduced to £20, the other would have been £44, but there was a 30% discount. I'm a size 16 and L suits me fine.

Just looked at the Gap website and it seems that pricing on their website is higher than what they had in store.
Also, never pay full price in GAP, there's always some sort of sale on.

ttc19 · 05/06/2019 12:34

Thanks everyone, I'm still browsing. Think I'm going to head into town tomorrow and try some bits on!

The waistband on GAP leggings kept slipping on me despite claims they were high waisted and fairly pricey.

I have an older pair form GAP that only does not slide down when I'm quite sweaty, so the two pairs I bought on the weekend are both with drawstrings.

Sweaty Betty stuff is expensive but fantastic. I think an XL in their sizing would fit. Their power leggings feel lovely, don’t slip and have two pockets for phone/keys.

There is an offer online for 15% off for new customers or £25 an order of £100+ if you get a recommend a friend invitation - should you want one if you PM me your email address I can send you one.

I don’t work for them, just shop there!

ttc19 · 05/06/2019 15:02

That'd be amazing @PinaColadaPlease! Thank you. How do I PM on Mumsnet?
