Running

(Posted in weight loss but perhaps more relevant here?)

I'm determined to lose a stone but I want to do it through exercise/burning calories - I find going for a run staves off hunger pangs for a good few hours.

At the moment I can only run early on a weekend morning, as I work every day and the boys have to be at childminder's for 7.30am. I'm hoping to sneak out on a weekday morning at 5am when it's lighter.

I'm doing about 20 minutes which - at my varying/slow speed - is 3.5k. I'm going to attempt the full 5k tomorrow.

If I did 5k four times per week, would it have any impact on my weight/appearance? Is running toning, or do I need to do weights etc. too?

Yes running is toning and doing 5k 4 times a week will make a difference. Weights would be an additional stimulus to your body, and some strength work is also helpful in preventing injury and making you a stronger runner. Good luck with it all.

That’s a really good pace! I do a lot of squats whilst holding something heavy which has really helped with my running.

Well done! That is a really good pace.

Well done! I'm off to do junior park run with DD and will be pleased with myself for doing 2k Grin

Ah ladies Thanks thank you!! It feels slow because I do four times round my very squelchy local playing fields. Maybe I should congratulate myself on doing a Tough Mudder Grin

I sometimes take DS1 who's six with me, he always manages to throw in star jumps and triple axels and berates me for being slow!
