Ive run on and off for a few years, but have recently decided i want to enter a 10k this year.
Ive got a pair of New Balance trainers, but they are wearing on the heel, so im having to wear a couple of plasters to get through a run.
Ive been into a running shop today and bought a pair of Brooks trainers, but im nit overally keen on them.
What are you all wearing?

I've always worn Asics and never had a bad pair.

Bubba1234 · 22/02/2019 21:38

I can only wear ASICS

niceberg · 22/02/2019 21:41

I’m an ASICS fan too!

Aginplease · 22/02/2019 21:43

Ill look into Asics. Im not sure whats putting me off, sounds silly but maybe the colour! I know after a few runs they will be dirty! 🤣

I love my Brooks, they are so comfortable

Notageek · 22/02/2019 21:45

I have a pair of Brooks and a pair of New Balance .. if you went to a decent running shop did they do a gait analysis on a treadmill ? Most places offer a return policy if you can’t get on with shoes they’ve fitted. Whats wrong with the new ones ?

PlugUgly1980 · 22/02/2019 21:46

Saucony

Chesneyhawkes1 · 22/02/2019 21:47

I've got some New Balance and some Brooks. But I'm addicted to Adidas boost now. Got many pairs. Supernova Glide Boost are my favourites.

Aginplease · 22/02/2019 21:50

Theres nothing wrong i dont think, only worn them in the shop and around the house, they feel comfy enough, they did do a gait analysis, so i know they were properly fitted. Maybe i just need to wear them, my old ones are a grey, were as these are blue/purple so quite bright

What do you mean OP? Asics come in a whole range of colours, not just white. They get no more filthier than any other brands.

You know that Asics come in more than one colour, right?

I always wear Asics Cumulus, ever since my gait was analysed and they were recommended. Been pain free running ever since. I also like that they update the style and colours every season, yet the comfort and fit stays the same.

(I use customised Nike Metcons for gym work/weightlifting/HIIT though).

I love my brooks ghost 10s. Lots of toe room for my wide feet!

Aginplease · 22/02/2019 21:55

I dont mean the colour of Asics. I mean what i have bought, the Brooks.
Im sure once i have run them in they will be fine, its just alot of money to spend on shoes, so want to make sure i have the right ones, which i probably have!
Thanks everyone

Gait analysis is useful so you know whether to get a neutral or a supportive sole.

Is is a road race? And his much cushioning do you like?

I am neutral, and like plenty of cushioning. I got on very well with Asics Dynaflyte, but found they did not last well. Mizuno Wave Rider felt similar and lasted much better, and I thought that was me sorted. Then I tried (just for comparison) Hoka Clifton. They're fantastic!

Aginplease · 22/02/2019 22:01

Yes its a road race, it was interesting as my left leg is straight were as my right leg and foot slighty turns in, i always have problem with my lower right back and sometimes ankle.
I tried some Hokas as my son swears by them, he does lots of marathons, but the sole was too chunky for me and i felt my foot didnt land quite right.

I started off in some random New Balance which were fine for running. Then I went to Brooks Ghost 10 when I started taking it more seriously. I know these get fab reviews but, though really comfortable, I found them slippery on a lot of surfaces. Recently got Brooks Launch & getting on better with them. I'll have to have a proper try-on of different trainers well before these need replacing!

nbee84 · 22/02/2019 22:06

I've got a pair of Brooks Glycerin and Brooks Adrenalin - love them both, find them really comfy and love the cushioned run. Sadly they haven't made me any faster Grin

Aginplease · 22/02/2019 22:07

Ha, im sure whatever i choose wont make me run any faster either! 🤣

Where do you go to get your hair etc checked?

Where do they let you return them
If they are not right?

Rubusfruticosus · 22/02/2019 22:08

Merrell Vapor Glove

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/02/2019 22:11

I tried on a lot after having gait analysis and ended up with Hoka OneOne, they are great! My knees knock together when I run but my gait is neutral; these have a shaped sole to stop my knees knocking, and they have improved my performance/pace quite significantly in 6 weeks.

BubblegumFactory · 22/02/2019 22:12

I’ve had Adidas Glide Boost and ASICS in the past which I liked at the time but then tried Brooks and can’t wear anything else now.

AuntieStella · 22/02/2019 22:18

Hoka encourage your footstrike towards the forefoot, which is nit for everyone. I also have a pair of Nike Zoomfly (much lighter, racing shoe) which also impels you to a forefoot strike. It doesn't make me go faster (it s shoe, not a miracle!) but it is certainly very light and tipping you that npbit forwards doekeeo you going. They feel a bit more rigid in the sole compared to the Hokas, but they do complement each other well

rosy71 · 22/02/2019 22:19

Asics. Have had several pairs now. No complaints at all.

Aginplease · 22/02/2019 22:23

Thanks everyone, i may go and have a look next weekend at some Asics just to compare, only have a Sports Direct where i live, so need to go out of town.
