Can I run half marathon in 4 weeks?

Following a training programme and just completed my long run for the week - 9.5 miles. Sounds OK, right? But I felt terrible! Really slow at nearly 2 hours and I kept having to stop and walk in last 2 miles. I now feel exhausted and am lying in sofa having tea brought to me. How am I going to add an extra 4 miles in a few weeks without keeling over? I'm basically adding a mile a week to long runs, but they are all awful.

Doggy, it is a fabulous half to do as your first! Lovely course, fantastic support most of the way round, lovely route..... There are super speedy runners and loads of slower ones. Enjoy it!

You can. And I never did the full distance before my first half - I think 16 or 18K was the longest. It's different with the real thing.

And to you too! “See” you on the other side!

@Neolara, how was it?

Neolara · 05/03/2019 17:41

It was surprisingly OK, thanks for asking. I was very slow but I always knew I was going to be. I started right at the back and pretty much stayed there. I was very impressed by the all the crowds and bands coming out on a drizzly Sunday to cheer everyone on. Am very stff today though. How was it for you?

Well done! Hope you recover soon!

I loved it and ran a pb which I was very pleased with. The route and atmosphere are fabulous. I will certainly be back next year.

I could run a half marathon in 4 weeks. That’s 28 days so 13 divided by 28 = 0.46 so that’s about half a mile a day.

Love it. Just signed up for a half and not done one in a year and tbh run very little. Did a little 3 miles and it reminded me how good I feel after but I too felt like shit after some training runs. Nearly vomiting awfulness but I fuelled more and drank more and got there. Well done!!!
