Hi - any advice for easing back into exercise post c section?

Pre pregnancy I did yoga / Pilates every day however over the pregnancy my pelvic girdle pain was so bad I was housebound for a number of months.

I feel like my base level of fitness is just non exist so I’m starting from scratch - any advice on how to get back into exercise and how long after delivery?

Thanks

I had a CS and SPD (and other complications at birth). I started with walking to the postbox and back then going to bed to recover! The milage built up fairly quickly and I could walk a couple of miles by about 8 weeks

I started the Erin O'Brien postnatal recovery DVD at about 6 weeks which is great at gently reactivating the core muscles affected during pregnancy, particularly with complications like SPD.

At 10 weeks I started a buggy fitness class.

It was about 5 months when I felt ready for mainstream fitness classes.

@anotherpidgey - that’s brilliant thank you! I’m so desperate to get going I need to be patient. I’m actually hardly in any pain at all. When I came home from the hospital and walked up the stairs to my flat my partner said it’s faster than the last 6 months. My SPD literally disappeared overnight.

I’ll try the dvd you recommended ...I should be patient and wait for my 6 week appointment I know !

Pilates is great for post c-Sec it toned me up from inside out highly recommend finding a good class. My local place you all have to do the beginners 6wk course to nail the basics before they let you do other stuff. Yes echo above I walked everywhere with the pushchair building up slowly, then min hour every day (easy as I did school run in that too). But do take the first 6wks easy as I didn’t with my first c-sec and paid for it later.

I started off with walking everywhere. Then at about 3 months i did a post natal exercise dvd. At 6 months i joined a buggy fitness group (think crazy ladies lunging up and down the seafront then stopping to squat and press-up) I didn't get back to any 'normal' exercise until after i'd finished breast feeding at 14 months. You will know what ur body can handle.

Just listen to your body. I had a school run to do when DS was 4 days old and it meant walking for a couple of miles. I walked v slowly at first and built up. Once I was walking quickly, I added distance and then started jogging by 7 weeks. Was back running at 9 weeks.
