I really need to get fit but I'm 50, very overweight and VERY unfit. Has anyone else done this when really overweight and unfit?
Thanks!

I'm thinking of giving this a go. I have never been any good at running.

My running buddy completed couch to 5k, and along with a good diet she lost over 5 stone. Totally do-able with commitment.

Yup, I have just finished the NHS c25k. The thread on here was great support (until I ‘fell off it’ and now can’t find it Confused

Meant to say I started it weighing 16stone7lb and unfit. I now weigh about 16stone but notice clothes fit better and my thunderous thighs seem less thunderous. I have not changed my diet (baby steps) and am more concerned with fitness than weight. I’m 45.

I did the programme with a free running club, there was a huge range of sizes and abilities, not everyone made it to 5k but most did. Doing it with someone else is the key to success, go for it, you've got nothing to lose! I've loved it and am signed up for a 10k in April

I need to get on it again. Half my wardrobe doesn’t fit!

I started running at 48 with C25k and am now 52 and on Monday will be starting a new C25k group with my running club as a Run leader 😀 ? If I can doit you can do it ! C25k is absolutely possible / achievable for you.

If you’re really concerned and have health issues then you could think about getting an ok from your Doctor first but generally its designed to build up strength and stamina slowly. My advice to our ‘nervous newbies’ is not to think of running as what you did at school - ie flat out sprinting ...start off slowly ...and then go slower ! With C25k its about building strength and stamina ...get that first and then you’ll naturally get faster.

If you can then look for a C25k group locally ..you’ll be in a group with others that have the same worries as you and you’ll all support and encourage each other. Its an ideal time to start as there will be loads of groups starting in January.

Oh and the other things to remember is runners are honestly all shapes and speeds and what ever you do you’ll be lapping those on the sofa !
