What can I do?

I've just had a severe calf tear (left leg). Recovery is around 5 months, says the consultant. I have a foot brace that I must keep on 24/7 until such time when it's removed and I move on to physiotherapy.

Question: what can I do in the mean time to remain fit and also not put on weight. Are there any exercises I can do that wouldn't involve using my leg too much?

Any advice on how to cope while my muscle heal would be appreciated.

I feel for you, am getting over a broken Ankle. I do stretches and use a weighted hoop plus hand weights, once I feel ready i’ll get on the exercise Bike Father Christmas left me to build up the Calf Muscles.

How about a hand cycle?

I'm thinking about something like this

Are you a member of a gym? When I had a hand injury I paid for a session with a PT who was very experienced with injuries and got him to show me exercises I could do

Bugger. When my DH tore his Achilles we got a cheap exercise bike from eBay and he cycled on that (in the boot) every evening.

Thanks everyone. It's really frustrating. I have a stationary cycle and will try that. I'll also look into the hand cycle but if I can get away with the stationary cycle then I'd prefer that.

It is ever so frustrating, made worse by the consultant not putting in the paperwork as he promised for me to have an ultrasound pronto.
