Anyone starting C25K?

todayiwin · 18/10/2018 06:32

Just started this week. I'm slightly overweight and utterly unfit! Can I do this .....

I've signed up for a 5K in December giving me 9 weeks to train.

Anyone want to join?

I am on week two. I haven't run since school ( and not much then !)so was dreading it but it has been good so far. Not too difficult yet, and I feel good afterwards. I got properly fitted for some running shoes as was worried about my knees . I am really surprised that I am enjoying it so far. I didn't think I would even manage a minute

TidaQuel · 20/10/2018 07:22

Yes, I’m putting off starting but need to..... I’ve never run before and I’m overweight and so unfit. I did start it a few years ago but didn’t finish due to an injury (not related to running).

Bestseller · 20/10/2018 07:26

I did it 12 years ago (printed off and stuck on the fridge, no apps then!) and have never looked back. It's the single best thing I have ever done for myself, transformed my life in more ways than I could ever have dreamed.

It's amazing how much progress you can make in a short time if you stick with the plan. Have a great time.

TheDogsKnees · 20/10/2018 10:08

I started on Thursday using the NHS app. I still can't walk properly after it (major DOMS) and run number 2 is due this afternoon! I'm really hoping I get into it and catch the running bug people talk about.

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/10/2018 10:12

Morning. I did this a few years ago and loved it but I haven't kept it up.

Feel a bit of a failure starting again but I know it works so really should.

I think I will go today!

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/10/2018 10:13

And i am 3 stone overweight so really need to get off my backside and do something.

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 20/10/2018 10:18

I keep saying that I'm going to and then coming up with excuses not to do it.
My plan is to start it after half term (another excuse I know!). I can't do it in the evenings as my DH is helping to renovate my Dad's house so he's not around until late.
I do need to do it though. I've put a lot of weight on over the last few years and I want to be fitter too.
Just hoping that I can do it, I am so unfit!

TheDogsKnees · 20/10/2018 18:02

Well I completed W1R2 earlier and, I don't know if I'm imagining it, but it already felt easier than the first run. Not that I found it easy! But I did feel good after finishing it. I'm also about 3 stone overweight so I'm combining the running with listening to Paul McKenna to aid weight loss because I just can't stick to diets 😏

hellocleveland · 20/10/2018 20:30

I agree with Bestseller, couch 2 5k has transformed my life.

I have never run and started in March this year (I'm in my late 40's). I Did my first parkrun in June and recently did my first 10k race. I've lost 3 and half stone. I still can't quite believe I'm a runner but I'm proof that anytime is possible if you set your mind to it.

babbi · 21/10/2018 10:31

I’m going to start this tomorrow.
In my 50s ... haven’t run 🏃‍♀️ since high school 😬
Scared 😟 but I can only do my best !
Good luck all 😀

Allhallowseve · 21/10/2018 13:17

I’m going to start tomorrow too ! I love excercising but only do classes every time Iv tried to run outdoors iv hated it and failed .... so I’ve decided to do the couch to 5k . I need to find a 5k race anyone know how to find them I need a goal!! I’m 32 with a 2 and 4 year old so excercising as much as I’d like to can sometimes be difficult .

Sadik · 21/10/2018 13:25

I'm on week 2 - never run before and I'm always worried about injuries as I do quite a physical job but just in need of some outdoors exercise for winter. Not sure I'll manage 3 times a week due to other commitments but I'm trying! (Does anyone know how bad it would be to do 2 days in a row sometimes? It's the gap between combined with 3 x a week that is hard to fit in)

Howlongtillbedtime · 22/10/2018 12:49

I have been and done wk2 r1 . It wasn't easy but I feel great for doing it.

sadik last time I did it I ran two days in a row often. I wouldn't do 3 but I think 2 is fine.

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 23/10/2018 18:06

I'm 50 and 2 stone overweight. I'm currently on week 7, but run very, very slowly (7kph).

This morning I ran for 25 mins. I'm feeling really proud of myself. I'm hoping to finish c25k at 7kph, then extend my running time until I can keep going for 5k.

Only then will I increase my speed. For me it's all about getting fitter and taking it slowly, not trying to be a marathon runner overnight.

Lithops · 24/10/2018 16:58

I’ve just been for W1 R1. Nearly killed me 😂. I stopped for a minute in the middle, but did manage it otherwise- hoping R2 will be easier...

Blarneybear · 24/10/2018 17:01

I so need to do this. I look at runners and really want to be them. I am two stone overweight and over 50.

Allhallowseve · 25/10/2018 06:37

Well done everyone I did w1r1 yesterday too it’s quite hilly around where I live I’m aching today!

Sadik · 25/10/2018 19:31

Just done week 2 for I think time no. 5. I've not run for about a week but it was fine & I'm going to have a go at week 3 next time :)

JeremyCorbynsBeard I suspect I'll be another very slow runner (I swim & am happy to do 2k but it takes me a looong time!) but I don't really care, I figure if that's how I run & I'm outside getting exercise it has to be good, no?

Lithops · 26/10/2018 20:19

I did Run 2 today. I nearly chickened out of it, but my DS insisted that we go. I'm not sure if he's a help or a hindrance, but his cheerfulness distracts me from the pain! Anyway, it was much easier than Run 1, so I'm feeling optimistic today.

Sadik · 26/10/2018 21:55

I did week 3 this time and it was actually ok - longer runs but not so many :). Hoping that next week I'll manage Mon/wed/Fri as holidays tend to be a bit less manic

babbi · 26/10/2018 22:19

week 1 complete .... !
Start week 2 on Sunday.....

Sadik · 29/10/2018 19:13

Week 3 for the second time again today. Third time on Wednesday hopefully. Then I'll have to decide if I'll be brave & go for week 4 on Friday, or if I'll wimp out and do wk 3 a 4th time.

fifipop185 · 01/11/2018 20:40

I started C25K in August and struggled, I repeated a few weeks as it was so tough. Today, I zoned out and wasn't paying attention to the app telling me to slow down to a walk and I ran for 16 entire minutes! Total stealth boast I know, but I'm so proud of myself. Could hardly run up the stairs before I started this plan. Keep going everyone!

RhubarbCrumbled · 05/11/2018 11:31

Can I join you all? I've completed C25K twice now and was running 10K but stopped and have to start at the beginning again. W1 is completed so it's onto W2 now.

Does anyone take their DCs with them? Mine is 5yo and I'm not sure how we'll get along if he's out too!!

creativeusername · 11/11/2018 21:10

I'd like to join you all as well. I've tried and failed to do c25k 3 times in the last year. Told DH that I was going to try it again and he sniggered so now I'm going to do it in secret and not tell him until I've finished it.
I currently take the 6 month old puppy for a walk from 5.50-6.30 each morning so that will be my time to train! Starting on Tuesday as been on a long walk with puppy today so she will need a rest day tomorrow.

I am very overweight so will not be running quickly! But I'm 30 next year so I want to sort my health out once and for all!
