Where do you start? Have you always been able to do one? I have a TRX, barbells and a bar but no access to machines.

Just a lot of practice. There are some videos on YouTube that tell you different ways to learn too. I couldn’t always, but can now.

Did you go to a gym or do it yourself? I'll
Have a look at YouTube. Thank you Smile

I can't yet do a pull up (can get about half way without help) , but I can do a full chin up.

I started hanging on the bar, then using resistance bands to help lowering the resistance as I got better.

A while ago, I worked up to nearly 3 pull ups at the gym. My upper body strength was quite good already, and I worked on it with TRX rows, lat pull downs, barbel rows, negatives and dead hangs.

I stopped and totally regressed! Couldn’t do 1.

So, I’m starting again. Been working on it for a few weeks. I’ve also just bought a pull up bar for home, and have ordered some resistant bands.

Similar tale here. I worked up to one chin up then two together with negatives, hangs, lat pull downs and cable rows, and just trying. Then got my first pull up. Now can do several of both with 30 sec rests.

Negatives help. So does hanging from the bar in an L sit position as long as you can. When I did my first successful pull up (which was at 35, never having managed to do one before) I had a realisation that the movement was coming from my core, not my arms, if that makes sense. I can do 10 pull ups in a row now, and I’m trying to progress doing weighted pull ups.

I started doing negatives from a chair and can do 2 good form pull ups from a dead hang. This thread is a reminder that I must keep doing them most days or I'll lose it!
