How to run with lost toenail

My DSis is doing her first Race for Life on Saturday, but she's lost a toenail & just putting her trainers on currently hurts.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Bigger trainers wouid probably help both now, and for all use in future to prevent recurrence).
And shedloads of willpower.
How long is the events? I know it's disappointing if you've been training for an event and your plan goes out of the window. But could she walk this one, and sign up for one in future to run?

You can buy cushioned covers to pop over the toe (from chemists or Scholl, if you have one nearby) - I lost my big toenail and had to wear one for a while! The one I had was made of foam but I imagine something like this would also do the job:

A nurse friend wrapped it up in something for her & she made it through. Thanks Stella & Ruby.
