I have not exercised in year's. I am an overweight pearshaped 40 something female.

I thought I'd try and get a little fitter. I walked 1.5mile 3 times last week and was averaging 18mins/mile.

Thought I'd try a little run this week. All l can manage is a 30 second slow jog before my legs give out. So l was jogging for 30 sec and then walking for 1 min. I did that 7 times.

I did this after googling, but am l approaching it correctly?

Congratulations, Sounds like a great start, keep a diary and look to increase your time running and decrease time walking till you can run 20 minutes. Then look to increasing overall running time.
Make sure you have good shoes and a good sports bra.

Alternated walking and jogging for 30seconds. Had to have a minute walking when really puffed out. Did that 8 times.

Don't feel that I'm gaining anything though. How will l know if I'm improving?

If you have not exercised in years and you’ve done those 2 outings, you’re already improving.

Can you download apps on your phone and do you have earphones? If so, download a Couch to 5k app. That will guide you through short runs to improve fitness.

Have faith, trust the plan but don’t be scared to listen to your body and take breaks (between runs) or repeat runs and you will emerge a runner.

Sometimes a run can help general achiness.

Sounds like you’ve been busy!
