Hi just wanted to have a chat about foam rollers and massage balls Smile I get terrible next pains and I recently went to see a physio who said most of it is down to posture so he recommend a posture brace which I have started wearing.

I teach pole fitness and have been getting numb hands a lot so he recommend a mini foam roller and also recommend a la crosse ball for massage to get into my neck / shoulder area.

Does anyone else use these? If so how often and for how long? Have you noticed a difference?

I use them before every single workout alongside the stretching. I think a decent sports massage would be beneficial to you too at least onc3 a month.
Posture wise have you been assessed by a biomechanics specialist they are the experts in postural analysts and could help correct your posture instead of wearing a brace which isn’t a long term solution.

I use a foam roller daily for neck pain which can develop into tension headaches and migraines. When my neck ‘goes’ I get tingling and numbness in my hands, my neck locks into place and it’s agony. I also use a massage ball. Finally I do some gentle neck stretches. It keeps on top of it and i rarely have any trouble.

I use the foam roller for about 10 mins a day - there are some good suggestions on YouTube specific to necks.

The massage ball I just use at my desk at work.

Stretches I just do as and when - again there are lots of suggestions on YouTube specific to necks and shoulders.

I’d get a new physio if I were you- a posture brace!?!?! Wtf?!!!

Do you teach pole fitness often? Do you do any other exercise? If you’re teaching a lot it would be wise to get a sports massage fairly regularly then use the foam roller/neck stretches in between appointments.

A posture brace is not going to fix this!!

I foam roll my legs most days, especially after a long run or heavy workout. More so in the lead up to a race. I’ve been lazy since running a marathon a few weeks ago & haven’t been rolling as much, I need to get back to it. I have a spiky massage ball which is too hard to get much use out of, I use it to relieve foot pain sometimes although a golf ball is better for that. Golf ball or similar might also help with your hands, or those squeeze things that are to strengthen your grip
