Loose/long vest tops for gym

Posted in Style and Beauty too...

Can anyone recommend a flattering gym top for me? I've been struggling with agoraphobia for a while now. Combined with weight gain from meds I'm not feeling very body-confident Sad I need to get back to the gym for my own sanity but I can't seem to find flattering clothes and it's adding to my anxiety Blush. I know I should get over myself and just GO but I feel ashamed looking like a lycra-sausage in the mirror, I'd like to feel comfortable.

I'm sorted for trainers, sports bra, trousers/capris and Bluetooth headphones. I'm a 32/34G, 14-16 and have developed a pot belly from the meds. Most vests seem to cling to my boobs and belly. Sizing up makes them too loose around my neck. I sweat loads so dri-fit fabric is preferable although cotton is okay if not. Sleeves make me look boxy.

I suppose I'm looking for a longline vest that's not too thin but not too tight, and doesn't cost the earth!

I'm prepared to be told to just wear anything and GO. Hopefully the problem will solve itself once I begin to lose weight Blush

I use Under Armor vest tops, they're long in the bigger sizes (website doesn't show this too well I find) I have this one and this one in grey as well as a couple of others and find they skim my mid-section (my problem area) well.

Good luck on your gym visit - honestly, everybody will be focused on their own programme to notice what other people look like Smile

Thanks Happy I checked out your links, they look good! I've had a few replies over in S&B so I'm compiling a list Smile

I know once I'm in the gym it won't matter a jot and I'll wonder why I fixated so much Confused Just would prefer not to catch sight of myself in a mirror and panic!

If you find a good one do report back Smile I struggle with big 38G boobs and don’t really like tight Lycra but don’t want to wear a tent either!

Will do Ski!

I have something a bit like this but in black www.boohoo.com/womens/boohoo-fit which is great. Mine came up super loose so I should think a 14 would fit, and it's very flattering as it just skims your body and doesn't cling anywhere. It's also much cooler/more breathable than a tight running top so I get way less sweaty and red in the face.

For the price it's probably worth a try?

Try Matalan, andTK Maxx

GingerKitCat · 28/03/2018 21:47

Lady do you have the full link or the name of the top, the link takes me to all the Boohoo tops. I'll take a look, I've never shopped at Boohoo before. Thanks for succinctly describing the exact thing I'm after Grin

Mamia - I'm off to look on Matalan now Wine

www.marksandspencer.com/textured-double-layer-t-shirt/p/p60157111?image=SD_02_T51_5041_F6_X_EC_90&color=DARKNAVYMIX&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect These are fab. I bought the last season colour and have just bought this one.

It's basically a vest top in sports fabric and a top layer t-shirt in more like cotton fabric. You get the benefits of a fitted sports top but the cover of a looser t-shirt. They're seperate too so can be worn individually.

Fairylea · 30/03/2018 15:37

Next own brand sports tops are good- loose fit over tummy etc. I have the t short and the vest and they’re both great.

RomaineCalm · 30/03/2018 23:29

I like Mountain Warehouse for longer line and looser fitting vests.

I've found more stores seem to be doing these now - I picked up a lovely one in the Sweaty Betty sale recently, and have one with a twisted racer back from Gap Fit which is fab.

So many great suggestions, thank you everyone for taking the time! I'm off to investigate...

Hi OP. My last couple were from New Look about £7 each. Longline, drapey not clingy and quite thin which I like as I get waaay too hot running/training. I've bought them before and they've washed well although they only seem to have a couple of colour choices.
