Is it possible to get a bigger bum through exercise?

I think my body shape is an inverted triangle, so broadish shoulders and back, narrow hips and not much bum. It makes me feel pretty unfeminine (as pointed out by my mum - thanks mother!), especially as the fashion at the moment seems to be larger bum = more sexy.

I currently have a personal trainer once a week and we do lots of body weight exercises. I also like running although haven’t done much recently. I’m 165cm and 72kg (approx 5’6 and just over 11 stone). I would like to lose 2 stone as I think I would be happier with my arms and stomach if they were slimmmer, but worried my bum will get even smaller!

Is there anything I can do to change my shape, or at least not lose my bum if I lose weight? Do squats work? Could I too achieve a ‘bubble butt’ (as promised by my Pinterest recommendations)?

I don't have an answer, but I do have the same body shape as you, so I'm watching this thread closely Grin

Yes
Proper barbell squats with good technique - front squats particularly
Add a bit of deadlifting and barbell hip thrusts with weight (not 20kg but more like 100+).
Need to use your glute maximus so none of these crappy insta workouts will do it
Cutting body fat also helpful

Will a normal squat achieve anything? Is there anything I can do at home? Will google glute maximus exercises. Thank you!

Heavy weightlifting hip trust glute bridges, squats, lunges, leg curls. If you’ve already got a Pt tell him to do you a program to meet what you desire. Because it’s your money you tell him what you want out of your sessions.

Oh and don’t forget to actually squeeze the muscle on every single rep and hold

Buy some York weights from amazon, they come like iron disks In different weights. and a couple of dumbbell bars then make them as heavy as you wish and do the exercises stated above at home.

Usually I've a flat arse, but after doing those exercises it's rounder and higher. They do work. I wasn't however looking to make my arse bigger so have some mixed feelings 🤣

Chloe madeleys weighta for women app is also very good.

Thank you for your suggestions! For the York weights, what is a reasonable starting weight? Am guessing personal trainer can show me correct technique.

Is something like this a waste of time as I should be lifting heavier?
Cast iron disc set
I use mostly 5kg fitness balls (slam ball/medicine ball) at the moment and 8kg kettlebell.

Plus, I guess I’m very naive for believing any of this?

Well I doubt you'll do it in 25 days I'm afraid. But you will start to see a difference at that point.

York weights come in different sizes, discs you add to add weight to each dumbbell. Have a look on amazon, you will see you buy a mixed set that goes quite heavy, you can then attach them as you see fit and build it up.

Go as heavy as you can lift. Always. And do three sets of eight reps. About 90 seconds between each rep. That will make you leaner but also define the muscle.

I also do cardio, but my backside only really changed when I added the weight routine in.

that pic is so daft. the angle light pose and underwear type is the trick.

siddis · 23/03/2018 12:20

If I start to see a difference in 25 days that would be amazing! Maybe I should also invest in some Brazilian knickers... Thank you for your advice!

Your PT should be able to answer this straight off the bar. Have you asked?!
