Been training for half marathon. Got up yo 11 miles last week. Did yoga class and I now have injured my knee!!

It's ok to walk on. It feels stiff at night. I've put deep heat on it.

My race is next Sunday!

Shattered would you do now?

Rest it completely?
Do a long walk and see how it feels?
Try a short jog?

If you are able to get to a physio that might help. Otherwise rest for a few days then try a longish walk to test it, and a short run another day if it's better.

Rest and see a physio.

You've done the work there's no benefit to be gained from training this week, especially with an injury

Thanks that's really helpful.

Agree with the others, try to see a physio and explain exactly what has happened (and what you need to do). They may be able to suggest taping it prior to your half. Depending on what they say see if you can do a very easy 5k on Tues/Weds.

my half is also next sunday.....recovering from a cough/cold scenario....which half are you doing? good luck!

Taping! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks. I will look for a physio tomorrow. Are they pricey?

I'm running the Hampton Court Palace Half. Which one are you doing?

I'm doing Reading Half!

I second taping!

SkiGirl007 · 12/03/2018 06:54

Rest and ice and elevate it. You need to taper anyway so stay off it, and you may have a chance. Stretch where possible. Injuries suck (I’ve had 2wks off running due to toe joint after my HM) if you can go swimming without aggrevating it is that an option?

50andgoingstrong · 12/03/2018 08:21

Swimming could be an option although my local pool gets very busy.

It feels a bit better this morning.

I'm going to stretch out today at yoga and do a short walk. See how it feels.

Thanks for the reassurances about not worrying about missing runs this week.

Do you have a foam roller? Sometimes you can get knee pain because of tight muscles around the knee, like the IT band. It's always worth rolling them all out. If you can't stretch to a physio, even a good sports massage with someone knowledgeable could help if it's muscular. I agree with everyone else about resting too. Good luck!

SkiGirl007 · 12/03/2018 12:14

Yes echo that whenever my knee has hurt it’s tight muscles in thighs, IT band and hips. Foam roller and / tennis ball roll may help.
