How many steps do you do per day?

I have a Fitbit and it's logging that I do on average around 6000 steps per day. I've just read that anything below 5000 steps is classed as sedentary, between 5000-7000 is low active, 7000-10000 is average and 10000 plus is active.
Think I definitely need to up my game if I want to get fit and healthy

Gym doesn't always mean steps - a pump class is about 250 steps and circuits only about 2k!

I've had a basic day today - I have a semi-mobile job, partly sat for long amounts of time with some walking around. I've done 12,300 so far.

I average about 11,000 a day, that’s with 2 School walks and a midday dog walk. Will be more if I go shopping etc

BlackPepperCrab · 10/10/2017 19:18

It varies greatly! Yesterday I did 16k, today, 3.5k.

Austen can you’ve just park 2 miles from work and walk? I wouldn’t want to walk thirty miles per day but parking further from work and walking the last bit would give you some walking

Austentatious · 11/10/2017 11:45

central london parking isn't randomly available at 2 mile marks, needs to be the work car park. There's also the issue of being able to do school drop off, drive to london and then fit in a 2 mile walk before 9 / 9.30 which isn't entirely feasible. I am at a loss to see where I can fit a 2 mile walk into daily routine unless someone forks out for a treadmill desk for me!

Not bad for midday!

(Does include a 10k run this morning!)

You never know that could actually be the future if office workers! There are already increasing numbers of standing desks being brought into offices, because of the health benefits of even just standing rather than sitting. Perhaps that's the next step - a standing desk with treadmill incorporated. It would certainly help increase the health of the nation.

*Future of office workers - for some reason auto-correct has decided 'of' isn't a word and I must mean if!

I average around 16000 a day. Have done over 10000 every day since November last year.

I do more on the days I run.

Shadowboy · 11/10/2017 14:45

Just looked at mine. Daily average is 9,625 approx. I don't have any idea how accurate my phone is!

VIctoria Beckham has a treadmill desk. Apart from that, I really want one!

Daisy62 · 11/10/2017 16:32

Mine varies quite a bit - sometimes as low as 4000 if it's a desk day, sometimes nearer 20,000. I look at my weekly count and aim for 70,000 a week - so if it's looking low by the weekend, I go for a long walk.

choli · 11/10/2017 16:38

My goal is 12000 per day, but I average about 16000. Walk to work and back, do a quick walk around the block which takes 5 minutes once an hour when prompted unless I'm stuck in meetings. A lot of my weekend steps are higher quality as we hike most weekend days and there is usually quite a bit of uphill and downhill.

I find the Fitbit quite motivating.

DavetheCat2001 · 17/10/2017 09:02

My daily Fitbit target is set at 11,000 which is the minimum I'll do.

Yesterday I did 23,000, but on an average day anything between 13,000 - 16,000

Sleepinghooty · 17/10/2017 09:10

I commute by train and have an office job so 10K is tough from a tube point of view. I try to get 3k before I get to the office- running around the house putting washing out tidying etc and walking back and forth on platform! (It means getting up at 6 though). If possible I get out for 20 mins at lunch but it's not always possible and then I find 30 / 60 mins of housework chasing after dc in the evening gets me close.

AutomaticSteeple · 17/10/2017 23:14

I don't know how you do it! Today, I did 10k on crosstrainer and then went on a solid 4 hour walk . On top of that, usual milling about. 19,000 all in. I couldn't physically do any more in a day!
