Would you tell someone you don't know that her swimsuit is starting to go saggy at the back? There is someone I've seen twice now and her black costume is starting to give in the lower back / bottom area and I've chickened out of saying anything. Should I?

Usual 2km done today. Pool was quiet which I enjoyed but it did mean I went a bit slower than usual with nobody to push me on!

TriGirl007 · 07/11/2017 11:14

I wouldn’t avocado unless I knew them really well but I’m a chicken Wink

bruffin · 07/11/2017 11:45

Yes, have been told, didnt bother me.

SingingAvocado · 07/11/2017 13:39

So you know, Bruffin, that your costume is giving way but you are continuing to wear it? That may be her attitude too, which is fine of course. I was only going to say something if she didn't realise and might get embarrassed.

bruffin · 07/11/2017 14:39

No i didnt know it was going, i was grateful for being told.

lljkk · 07/11/2017 19:10

I guess it depends if I felt like you were being interfering or if you were like me & it's hard to see sag on self but easier to see a suit going transparent on others, so really just wanted to help me know how bad it was getting.

Hissy · 07/11/2017 19:38

My OH trunks had gone on the behind when we went on holiday, luckily he had his spare set.

Gave half a Greek island a cracking view of the moon 🌑

TheMShip · 10/11/2017 09:30

I'm back! Grin Been away for a bit at a work conference, no pool and I was SOOOO glad to get back in the water this morning. Just an easy 1km but what an amazing mood lifter!

1K this morning. Planned to be in pool for 7.15am. Was awake in time, but alarm hadn't gone off so snuggled under the duvet waiting for it. A while later I thought I'd check the time. 7am....alarm was not set for Monday. Woops.

Had lane to myself and felt great. Back a bit sore after yesterday's run but it's eased now.

Have a good week folks

Forgot my membership card and my locker £1 and my knickers!

OP posts:
lljkk · 13/11/2017 09:19

Oh dear! I forgot my hat last night. I had £2.45 in my pocket which might have bought me a hat, but I have 10 hats at home (kids' old ones) so I'll be damned if I was buying another.

I improvised with hair band & hair tie. Hair went loose so often couldn't see, but luckily lane not too busy. I got an idea about better strokes from watching a video. OMG the revised stroke made my arms more tired (but I could actually feel that the revised stroke was more efficient, too). I am going have huge arms if I keep it up.

TheMShip · 13/11/2017 09:27

rights, that sounds like a morning of minor and (in hindsight) amusing chaos.

Cruised through 1km here this morning too. It's SO COLD OUTSIDE!! I'm doubling up with gloves and massive mittens on my bike, and full base layers top and bottom. My poor toes are not so protected though, they felt like tiny icicles when I jumped into the pool.

rightsofwomen · 13/11/2017 10:28

It really is cold! I'm just warming up in my Garden Office. I've got my Uggs on (with my tracksuit bottoms...looking good!)

I also had some freak swimming cap meets lane divider incident as I ducked under to get to steps. It got caught and stuck firm! Managed to wrestle myself out. No one was looking, right?

No one saw you, rights. You aren't the talk of the changing room or the lifeguard break room Smile.

Swimming off this week. I'm stuffed with cold. Will see if I can get another few in before the temperature drops too far, and the pool closes for the winter. Might have to move the time towards the middle of the day rather than crack of dawn.

SingingAvocado · 14/11/2017 10:29

Quite busy today. Glad I didn't have to scrape ice of my car as I did yesterday morning. 2km done … One of my 'swim friends' has pulled a shoulder muscle so is only doing half his usual lengths. We usually pace against each other.

Laughed about the swim cap episode Rights. Thank you for making me smile!

SingingAvocado · 16/11/2017 15:24

Thought for the day: It struck me this morning that when everything comes together and you get your stroke etc. correct swimming is like a hot knife through butter!

Hissy · 16/11/2017 15:54

no one saw you rights just as no one heard anyone in my lane 'expelling gases' as I they pushed off against the wall racing my their OH/Training partner.

When it all goes right, when you are in the zone singing, it's heaven, it's like you're supposed to be there, you don't even realise you're managing your breathing, we BELONG!

lljkk bit concerned about your revised stroke, it shouldn't feel harder.. unless you are actively working on the catch and pull? Even then you need to rotate to get your body to make most of the pull.

I'm working on this at the moment and it's taken my times down from between 2.11 - 2.15/100 to 1.55/100 or 1.57 per 100 and it's all fairly doable. Even the OH has had a bit of a fright that I can keep up with him length after length now. Run out of juice about 75m at his pace (between 1.49 and1.52/100) but I won't do for long :D

Rollergirl11 · 16/11/2017 22:40

Hey there peeps, hope you don’t mind if I join you?

I have been swimming for fitness pretty much all of my adult life along with running and HIT. For the past 9 months I have decided to concentrate on the swimming with a view to doing an open water swim in the spring next year.

At the moment I am swimming 2k in 40 mins 3 times a week and I have just joined a swim club on a Monday night to improve on my swim fitness and stroke efficiency. First session was quite scary as the club appears to be full of triathletes but they were all very encouraging and made me feel welcome. There are lots of things that I need to work on with my front crawl but am already starting to feel more efficient.

It’s interesting to read about all the various “swim etiquette” scenarios. What would you say was reasonable in the following instance? Our pool has 3 roped lanes for slow, medium and fast. The rest of the pool is free swimming. When I went this morning there was nobody in the lanes and about 2 old dears in the free area. I got in the fast lane and did lengths of front crawl. After about 5 mins another lady got in the fast lane and started swimming very slow breast stroke up one side and side swimming coming back. There was no one in either of the other 2 lanes and still only 2 people in the free area. The lady continued to swim really slowly and would still set off ahead of me at the end of a length even if I was right behind her and right in her heels. I ended up repeatedly overtaking her. It was all so unnecessary as there were 2 completely empty lanes. I thought about moving lanes myself but then thought why should I as I was in that lane first and I didn’t as in the appropriate lane and she wasn’t. I really wanted to say something but bottled it but I was just gobsmaxked that she was so utterly unaware. WWYHD?

SingingAvocado · 17/11/2017 09:38

Welcome Rollergirl. Like you I do 2km in 40 mins three times a week. I'm very impressed with your swim club and encouraged that they were so welcoming.

Re etiquette, I'm so non-confrontational that I think I'd have moved to another free lane. It is SO frustrating though. At my swim yesterday I was in the fast lane and my neighbour, who I'd given a lift to the pool, was in the medium. He then joined the fast lane because there was someone in the medium lane doing breaststroke slowly, and resolutely keeping her head out the water. It is great that she is swimming of course, but I she really ought to be in the slow lane (Hissy I think did a very funny 'rules' list on an earlier thread that said something to this effect!).
