Logged a couple of swims this week back in the shorter 20m but very quiet club pool so feels harder to rack up a 1km than in the 25m pool Grin

Glitteryfrog · 09/09/2018 18:16

I've done another couple of laps of the lake.
I'm feeling more confident now.

Has anyone signed up to the Great North Swim next year in Windermere?

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 12/09/2018 12:58

OK folks, it's a new term, let's do a roll call and get this thread and ourselves more active!

Me: TheOrigRightsofwomen
Swims: aim to swim twice a week, 1K front crawl
Goals: None at the moment, just maintain the twice a week swim.

tizwozliz · 12/09/2018 18:12

I've been sick the past week and my ears are still a bit dodgy so no swimming for me. I'm hoping by Friday I can venture into the water again.

I need a new goal right now, i'm just not quite sure what that's going to be.

CorrigansDoorKnob · 13/09/2018 14:20

Ok Rights.
Me: CorrigansDoorKnob
Swims: 3 x per week minimum. 3-4.5k per set. Buzz word - consistency!
Goals:

  1. possibly 10k open water swim in November, maybe 5k if I wimp out. November is quite soon, so this may not be achievable...
  2. go sub 1:40/100 for CSS and join the next faster lane on my Friday morning squad
  3. open water 3.6k swim in Feb: beat my previous PB of 61:30

Who’s next?

boxcar · 13/09/2018 19:33

Me: boxcar
Swims: hadn’t swum in 15yrs until I got injured running this summer. Getting back into it (1k continuous front crawl tonight) but only averaging once every 10 days as I’m easing back into running again.
Goals: 400m in under 8:30

SkiGirl007 · 13/09/2018 21:40

Ooh me next then. Swam 1.2k last night.
Goal just to keep swimming min 1k once ideally twice a week. Working on increasing F.C. speed by focusing on technique and making myself do sprints which I dont do enough of.
Also teaching myself butterfly Grin
Too keep relatively pain free as had a couple of months of issues again not sure if running induced so need to keep strength training if I want to keep running grrr!

SkiGirl007 · 22/09/2018 20:37

Had a great mile swim last night with the whole pool to myself for most of it Grin I guess most folk are out on a Friday night not de-stressing in a pool. I loved it.

CorrigansDoorKnob · 23/09/2018 03:33

I've finally found my groove at the moment. I've been lacking consistency over the winter. I had a lovely swim in the ocean this morning with friends.

I saw Aussie Olympic swimmer Cate Campbell at the beach. I was too chicken to ask for a photo or autograph though, I thought I'd leave her in peace as no one else seemed to recognise her. My goodness, she has lats to die for!!

SkiGirl007 · 26/09/2018 12:56

Sounds fab corrigans.

Quick 800m last night whilst one child at their club.

boxcar · 26/09/2018 21:38

750m for me tonight dodging around kids playing. Busy tonight. There were a few of us trying to negotiate a way up & down the pool!

tizwozliz · 27/09/2018 11:38

Back to the 50m pool for the first time in a while. Forgot just how much harder it seems than 25m but managed a steady 3km

flamingnoravera · 29/09/2018 16:58

Has anyone found that their nails are affected by regular (5x week) swimming? Mine seem to be aiming away from the nail bed and the only thing I can put it down to is chlorine/pool chemicals.

tizwozliz · 02/10/2018 19:35

On holiday right now so only a little bit of swimming for me this week. Lovely spot for a dip today, I always forget how salty the sea is though!

Looks lovely tiz.

Nice 1k tonight lane to myself and most of the pool Smile

April2020mom · 03/10/2018 20:26

I went for a swim yesterday morning but didn’t do much. I’m easing myself into the saddle so to speak after a head cold and sickly children too. 2/3 laps to start with and see what happens. I’ve also considered playing tennis and taking up lacrosse or netball lessons as well but we’ll see what happens. My local pool is at the local leisure centre along with the gym and activities etc. The goal is to get in shape for our family vacation next summer on a cruise ship.

boxcar · 03/10/2018 21:11

800m for me. Still busy - Wednesday’s @ 6pm clearly a popular time. Ran my 1st 5k in 5 months on Mon but physio told me to be careful & keep swimming. So swimming it is. Am actually a better swimmer than I am runner but swimming’s so hard to fit in!

Glitteryfrog · 04/10/2018 10:09

First time swimming in a pool for a long time and having spent the summer swimming in a lake with a bunch of hard-core swimmers I'd forgotten how much faffing there is in a pool.
There was a pair of guys who I didn't actually see swim, just sat in the shallow end having a chat (there is a nice dry pin next door).
I think I did about 50 lengths?

Anyone got any form of lap counter? More than about 10 lengths and I loose count.

CorrigansDoorKnob · 06/10/2018 03:22

What a gorgeous location tizwoz. The ocean is till cold here and the air temp is till cool for the time of year. Its probably going to go from cool to boiling in a matter of weeks though and we'll all be complaining about the heat.

I'm nearly at sub 1.40 for my CSS, so I'm pleased about that.

SkiGirl007 · 11/10/2018 10:52

Logged another 1.2km Swim Tuesday eve. Was in the zone just up/down had my side of the lane to myself Smile

SkiMum99 · 13/10/2018 21:42

Swam 1k this afternoon- very quiet on here?

tizwozliz · 15/10/2018 20:28

Only managing sporadic sessions right now, 2k at lunchtime.

Debating whether to rejoin the masters club, with the dark evenings and mornings I think i might need the discipline of attending specific sessions otherwise it's just too easier to keep putting it off until the next day.

TametheDragon · 18/10/2018 11:38

Hi all, new to the thread but trying hard to make some serious improvements to my swimming over the winter! Decided it was time to stop intermittently lurking on this thread and actually join in, in an effort to keep myself more motivated!

I'm toying with the idea of getting a Finis Tempo Trainer to help me keep my pace consistent. I train in randomly sized 17m pool though - could anyone tell me whether I can alter the settings on the tempo trainer to 17m or whether its geared to the usual 20/25/50m pool sizings? Smile

flamingnoravera · 19/10/2018 09:19

I have not swim for a week, I usually swim 4-5 times, 1km each time. For the first time in three years I have had no back pain. I can't bear to think that swimming could be the cause of my lower back pain. I always thought it was the best exercise for back pain, but now I'm seriously considering another week with no swimming to test my hypothesis.

SkiMum99 · 19/10/2018 18:56

Swimming does aggravate my back flaming most sport does except cycling it’s only thing that really doesn’t. It’s the main reason I mix up the swim/running/cycling with some Pilates. I mix up my swim now with kicking on my side and back with FC. as my back bending is what aggravates my discs in my lower back.

tamethedragon I’ve not used the tempo trainer sorry I can’t advise.

Quick 1k at lunchtime did 10L in the middle sprinting which got me puffing but felt good.
