Help - is this possible?

I'm going on holiday in January and want to do a hike up a volcano. Info says 16km over 5-6 hrs in high temps.

I'm 2 stone overweight, active (gardening) but completely unfit and I hate sport. How do I prepare, or is it a lost cause?

Get some comfy, supportive shoes and start walking.
How long could you walk for? Start with that, then go a bit further every time.
Fine to start off on pavements, but think about going on some untarmaced paths to get ysed to walking on rough paths.

You've got 6 months. Yes it's possible.

Do you have any hills you can walk up? Walk up hills whenever possible.

Where there's a Will there's a Way.
Why do you want to hike up so bad?

Trethew · 31/08/2017 19:52

Why? It's the only way to get to the top and see the view

It's the trip of a lifetime - galapagos - and I want to get every ounce I can out of it. I'm unlikely ever to do anything like this again, and I don't want to be left at the bottom while my children walk up

Thanks all for your advice, and encouragement

Hire a tread mill for some cardio as healthy heart will be important at that height and heat

If you have the money I would suggest going to a small gym, explaining what you want to do & working with a personal trainer. If they are decent they would know how to plan it. I say this as the one I go to trains people for passing work fitness assessments, doing charity treks (walking & running) etc The trainer there would love this!
