Toned arms

I go away on 2nd July. Im really self conscious about my arms and would like them to be more toned by then.

What is the best exercise for this and how long will it take? I have gym membership as of 10mins ago and can go bouldering if it'll help.

My arms got toned as a result of working on my shoulders for long term pain. A happy side effect! Shoulder presses, lat pulldowns, tricep dips - maybe have a session with a trainer at the gym.

Lift weights - the heaviest you can manage. Use dumbbells for arms.

Bicep curls and overhead press, tricep extensions, upright rows, bent over rows and arms raises. Try and do 3 sets of 12-15 reps.

Ace, thanks. I should be able to do something between now and then, right?

ive been oding the arm stength machines at the gym for 2 months 3/4 times a week as heavy as I can lift for 8x3 reps and my arms have really improved - they no longer wobble when I wave! I actually have visible muscles too! you can definately make a difference by July.

Definitely. Aim for at least three times a week and you'll notice the difference in a couple of months.

Thanks. I have self harm scars and I can deal with either being self conscious about them OR about the fatness, both and I'll just wear cardigans all the time which is not the plan

Presses in all their forms, especially overhead, with decent weights. Bicep curls and rows, tricep dips and extensions.

CaulkheadNorth · 30/04/2017 18:41

is it a 50/50 cardio/resistance or is it worth going for a lower cardio at this stage in the game?

The toning effect is a mix of building muscle and loosing body fat. The exercises described above will help you build muscle however these new muscles may not be seen if you don't also loose body fat.

So I would make sure you add some cardio into your excise plan at the gym and also make sure you eat healthily until you holiday to ensure you loose some body fat and can see those new muscles :)

You should do a measurement of your arms now and in July and you maybe surprised how much they change x

Ella is right. My upper arms are a bizarre mixture of muscle and layers of fat. I can do the lifting and the cardio but I can't cut down on the junk food!
