After a bit of advice as now getting on quite well with C25K...

What is a reasonable time for doing 5K in? I know this is a bit "how long is a piece of string" but looking for an idea of what to aim for eventually

What do you wear on your bottom half - links or specific brands/names etc would be great. I've just been trundling along in a pair of Sainsbos joggers but last night got quite sore where my thighs rubbed Blush must lay off the chocolate

Well done for getting out there. My first aim for 5k was 30 minutes then I went from there. I'm not a particularly fast runner so my best 5k on is 27 minutes. However I know what I'm good at, distance not speed. I wear all different brands of leggings anything from primark, karimoor to Nike. Anything that you feel comfortable in, a good bra is what's important though and shoes.

35 minutes was my first goal, then 30.

I like the Karrimor running gear because it has zip pockets on all the bottoms for keys/parkrun barcode.

I run 5k in around 30 mins depending on how hard I'm running.

I wear Nike on the bottom as they fit narrow waist and wide hips. Love them. Or sweaty Betty shorts in the summer.

My first aim was a 30 min 5km. This that's quite a common goal.

I love the Tikiboo leggings as they have a high waistband I can tuck my flabby tummy into and a drawstring.

Anything faster than walking & not dead last is a good time in my mind.
The range of ability is huge.... from under 18 to over 40 minutes.

I used to do 5km in about 35 min but have improved a lot over 18months.

Bottomwear: I don't get chafing, but people who do get chafing swear by tight lycra things. Sports direct offers huge selection.

Under 30 minutes is my current parkrun aim - under 15 minutes would win most parkruns depending on terrain. Sub 20 seems to be a thing.

Leggings - of the lycra variety with a drawstring that ties will be your friend for the bottom half. Drawstring is essential - my worst run with uncooperative do involved dog lead in 1 hand and holding up my leggings (which I thought fit acceptably for weights/yoga) with the other.

1 of my pairs (capri length) was from Aldi, shamefully I have 2 pairs from sports direct because they were easy to acquire when an encounter with a fence on a mud run wrote off their predecessors. My only requirement is the drawstring waist. More style oriented friends like tikiboo.

I am only on week 7 so covering 5K now but still only 25 minutes of that jogging and walking the rest. It takes me around 45 minutes. Just trying to think ahead a bit for a target once I get to the 30 minutes of continuous jogging done. I'm definitely not a speedy jogger, in fact my power walk is probably just as fast/slow.

Will go and google bottoms now. Sweatty Betty out of my price range though I may pop my head in to see if there's anything on sale...

My fastest 5k so far is 34:19. (The app I used expected me to end up doing it in 30 mins but I ignored that bit).

I wear Karrimor Capri-length leggings, they're comfy and as a PP said I like the back pocket.

30 mins is a good aim. But speed is not the be all and end all.
I have been running for 5 years, and still only run a 30 - 32 min parkrun...but have done a lot of them!
Just being out and being consistent is the important part of it.
And - you are faster than everyone on the sofa!

I'm signed up for a 10K in a few weeks, I expect to do it in about 1hr20. Plenty of people will be faster but for me that will be a bloody big achievement!

I wear sainsburys leggings. They're the comfiest items of clothing I've ever owned, they're about £14 and come in nice patterns.

ASDA has a clothing sale at the moment, they have 3/4 leggings on sale at £5 and £6. they are pretty comfy.
My 5k is roughly 30 mins depending on terrain.

My fastest 5k is 38:39 at parkrun a few weeks ago. I'm not fast but I don't walk any of it now. I've been running since January but find it hard to get out more than twice a week. I'm doing the Great South Run in October so need to start going further. I am a bit disappointed that I'm not quicker but pleased with myself that I'm even doing it at all!

Thank you ladies. I will go out in the leggings I have tomorrow night and see if that's better unless I come across a good bargain in town tomorrow. Found the Tikiboo prints a bit too garish for me Wink

I'm really pleased I've made it this far, just wanted something to gauge it by I guess.

I went to tkmax for running tights. Not a fan of rummaging usually but I only had a small selection to go through as I had gone for leggings specifically so it was ok.

I started c25k in March and can now run 5k without walking. My first walk/run 5k took about 45 minutes. My first parkrun (bloody hilly!) took 36:10, then I got slower 36:46 then this week amazingly was 32.56 still walking up the worst 2 hills. I run with a group. Many of their first parkruns were around 43 minutes and most are now running late 20's early 30's.

I've done 5k in anything from 30-40 minutes.
If you do parkrun it doesn't matter how long you take as some people run/walk or walk it

goodness Essa March this year? Blush I started last July and gave up in October and restarted in February and still struggling to get past week 7....

I started via C25K less than a year ago, and am happy with anything under 30mins for a (moderately hilly) Parkrun.

I like Kalenji, the Decathlon own brand, for running tights - good feel and two useful pockets (also I swerve Sports Direct whenever I can). I've also had some very good ones from TKMaxx (some Italian? brand I'd never heard of)
