How many steps a day?

Just looking at my "steps" on iphone. I have a sedentary job at work and normally only walk between 6000 and 7000 steps a day (pretty consistent..)

On 8th April I was organising an event and did 35,498 steps and my feet really ached the for the next 48 hours. Couldn't wear boots etc..

I spiked a 12,897 on 17th April without any subsequent issues.

I have no clue how many steps would be considered healthy (I'm 54..) and looking for any advice about how many I should be trying to do on a daily basis.

It's advised to do 10000 per day

6000-7000 still isn't bad for a sedentary job. I have a sedentary job and today after work I got to Tesco having walked only 900 steps! Tesco put me up to 2200 so a quick supermarket trip for tea gave me more steps than my entire workday up to that point! Blush

Do you always have your phone with you? I ask that because sometimes my phone records about 500 steps a day Shock.

When I had DD's iPod nano in a pocket all day it recorded 9500 steps on a normal work day so no exercise in particular.

I was actually slightly worried until I thought about it. My phone lives at the bottom of my handbag under my desk for most of the day.
